I think that in all honesty you would need more classes for an MMORPG of 40k. To match to common MMORPG themes, you need both Melee and Ranged DPS, Healers and Tanks, and hybrids. I would suggest that by simply dividing it between support and offensive roles you would have an easier time. For example, loyalist space marines have offensive classes (tactical marine, assault marine, devastator) support classes (apothecary, techmarine, scout) and hybrids (terminators, librarians). Each class can provide offensive power, but offensive classes must naturally provide more. Support classes would offer skills that other classes don't have, or skills that are simply very different from other classes ("spells," or perhaps repair, healing, special detection, "pets," crowd control, etc.) Hybride classes blend offensive and support roles, so a librarian would naturally have offensive ranged and close combat powers as well as supporting powers. Terminators act as tanks and absorb damage, but also deal offensive punch. I don't know other races well enough to give examples for them. For chaos, I would say let marks or cult status be achieved through a talent tree or skill point system similar to many other RPG's. In the same way, tactical marines may become veterans or honor guard, assault marines may become vanguard veterans, and devastators may become sternguard. Perhaps tactical marines could upgrade to terminators and act as tanks throughout their entire level span. Or maybe armor could be implemented in the same way that druids act in different roles based on their armor, so they can tank (bear form) as terminators, deal dps (cat form) in power armor or scout armor, and travel more quickly (travel form) as bikes.

I think all MMORPG's are bollocks.

Look at WoW and Warhammer Online. Pure shit. After seeing Warhammer online I seriously hope they avoid a 40k game.

Kill 10 gretchin and collect their spikey helmets.
Collect 5 nuts from the engine room...

*yawn*

interesting though, but an mmorts would be far too confusing for some possible players, and that's starting to resemble eve online to me..with the spaceport trading and travel and such.

good stuff too, i like the hybrid or multi class things (support, dps) that's a really cool idea. like it alot. gave me an idea for something...

lol AND THERE'S JEZ WITH THE FINISH. ahaha epic, i understand that PLENTY of people think it's boring and irritating to grind up mobs, experience points and such, gathering A SHIT LOAD OF ITEMS, and moving intense distances. WoW is decent, because i understand the background story of warcraft (warcraft 3 knowledge ftw). i also understand WaR because i just love warhammer and i'm familiar with all the classes and races and stuff. but good observation jez

Honestly, you don't need a Morepug, or even a more-rts. You need something a lot more akin to an MMOFPS. Like how in Team Fortress 2, you gain experience but its a shooter game. Except on a grander scale.

I don't see any MMORPG working much ifferently to all the other ones out there at the moment. more than likely if it is made it'll be WoW with more shooting and new skins. They'd probably completely leavce out vehicles as what will stop people from just walking up and taking yours? or being a dick and driving it, and all of your friends in it, off a cliff? It wouldn't work well and if it did it'd be complete bollocks(stealing jez-terminology) as it's an MMORPG.....

If you shit in one hand and wish in the other we all know which one will fill up faster.

I'd say the Sternguard Vets would be more suitable for SM ranged DPS, simply because they can still move and fire their boomsticks, whereas Devs can't. They've got regular bolters (for White Damage, i.e. WoW), and special ammo for "special attacks" (aka Green Damage). Devs would be a little too one-dimensional to actually be a player class; perhaps it could be a specialty for Sternguard PCs to choose from.

Personally, I'm against the whole idea of a 40k MMORPG. I think a gold-medal formula would be to take the Call of Duty 4 engine and use it for a 40k online shooter. SERIOUSLY. Just thinking about that warrants a change of underpants.

In the same vein, anyone who says that a 40k shooter can be modeled after Halo 3 should be castrated, and anyone who advocates a 40k "Battlefield" game should be outright incinerated.

halo 3 is a crap shooter. it's the only next gen shooter that does not reward skill with weapons but the strength of it. headshots mean nothing in it. Now A COD version would be good. hell for a 2nd year project in my course(games dev.) Someone's making 40k skins for counter strike source... doesn't look great yet but it's early days yet..... That would be a better online 40k game....

Aye I'd certainly play one, although If I'm honest I probably wouldn't pay a monthly sub for it, which is what they are after.

Oh and when I say different, I mean I think they will incorporate a shooting aspect in there, so I'd think it would feel different on that front. Although I never got around to trying Tabula Rasa, so no idea if being shooter heavy works in a MMORPG and if it makes a big difference to the tank/healer aspect.

TBH the difference between Counterstrike and Counterstrike Source is astronomical, to say the least. While Counterstrike was an absolute piece of horse shit, Counterstrike Source as decent and, above all, fun. I think a 40k mod for CS:S would be legit.

Ask and ye shall receive. 40K Source mod:

http://www.40ksource.com/index.php

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?
