its great, a bitch to install (read my rant) but the gameplay is so much fun, 5 space marines take out 167 orks, now that is a space marine lol

since we can largely disregard anyhting Stella has to say when it comes to views as he only ever gets as far as "what do you think of...." and then can't restrain himself from saying "crap.. rubbish.. everything is lame" we can move on to the actual proper views of those who actually put thought into our posts.

Having only played the beta so far it's hard to properly gauge exactly how good it is. That being said, the beta WAS god enough for to go out and pre-order the collector's ed. (And I get a free keyring form Gamestation WOOT)

Graphically it's stunning and the multiplayer side of things is an absolute blast. Very easy to pick up and get going with. Consider the beta doesn't come with gameplay instructions or a tutorial of any use I was cranking out ork boys and laying out some waaagh smackdown after about 3 bad start attempts.

There's no base building in this one, you get your HQ and you captuyre strategic points for resources. However all your units come from your HQ building. Let's ne honest, base building sucks all that faffing around building different structures to get the units that you want. Now you just upgrade your main building and hey presto, everything is there.

The beta lacked a few of the REALLY cool things I wanted to play with like meganobz, however I have been told pretty much EVERY unit is available in game for the full release.

in all, if you played and enjoyed DoW... you'll flat out love this.

The originals better. If you want to see how the Table Top accuracy is implemented... try having a word with Katie Drake about Firestorm over Kronus ;) or myself... but I'm not too technically minded, so Katies better to ask than me ;D

But I like Soulstorm more, currently. The Dark Eldar still hold my love, and I'm working my way (slowly) up the ladder with them.

I much prefer the first dow. The second one is nice but i find it to be a dumbed down version of COH. I feel its needs a bit more work on both the tactic side and the battlefield side (cratars, explosions etc) to get me to buy it. Whizzwang meganobz wont be in dow2 the units in the beta where all the units in the game unless they are only in sp. It would have have been much of a balance beta if they left out some of the units.
Also stella most people found DOW 1 to be a good game players and reviewers alike. So in the process of trying to get you to actually post something worthwhile in this thread. What dont you like about the dow games and in general want RTS do you like.

the second is how easy the first games were, even on harder difficulties, all you had to do was spam tactical squads and missile launchers and you win.

third was the fact they have nothing to do with 40k, sure everything looks like something from 40k, but its not.

fourth even for an RTS the graphics were only average

fifth it was extremely repetitive, nothing ever happened to suprise you or test you, the enemy just kept doing the same futile stuff over and over and over again, you could just sit there until they drained there resources wasting attacks on you

sixth vehicles, what a load of crap, and they don't even take damage

Company of heroes, your squads go for nearby cover when shot, the vehicles actually take damage that effects them, facings make a difference, morale actually has an role, weapons feel like they actually do something without shooting through buildings, friendly fire is rampant if your not careful, I like a game that actually makes me thing about what I'm building and how I'm using it, and it even looks good, even on lower quality.

Stella, if you want to play a realistic DoW game (if you still have it) that follows the Codices (for all intents and purposes) such as Line of Sight and a Lasgun doing diddly squad to anything with an armour of 5+ or greater, then play Firestorm over Kronus.

Alternatively, use something like Corsix Mod studio, and edit all weapons to obey entity and Terrain LOS. Be warned, your computer will slow down to about half frame rate on high terrain maps if you do this, but it takes about 3-4 hours work, and you can play it 'as it should be'.

Did you play MP or Sp. As I have to admit that DOW was not a good game to play SP.
Also I dont understand the bit about tanks not taking damage if you used AV weapons they took alot of damage.
