Default Problems with Steam

ok, i got dow 2 today and installed at 10:00, finished after half an hour, decided not to get the patch (i only want to play campaign) started the game and was told that a file was missing and that i needed to reinstall, so i did.

same problem, ok, so i need the patch to run the game, wtf. started download it, at 22% it crashed, tried again and same thing so i went for a walk to calm down (i was getting very pissed at THQ by now) came back and tried the patch again, got to 50% and it crashed once more.

seriosly, i brought the game for some good fun single player fun and instead ive spent 3 hours just trying to get it to work. atm a friend at the game stores getting me to come down later and ima try it there, if it fails THQ is giving me a refund, im sick off the crap, oh, and im now never buying another off their games, they made a major fuckup here, wats to stop them doing it again

Okay, you're annoyed, but it's futile at best to start bitching about THQ.

Firstly, THQ did nothing wrong. They're the publishers. It's Relic who made the game.
Secondly, I've had no problems with it whatsoever. It's more than likely a problem/something you've overlooked with your computer, as the patch solves balance and gameplay issues, not technical. Have you got the latest drivers for your hardware?
Thirdly, you're an early adopter, buying the game on release day. You should expect issues for at least the first month of a game's (Longer for OS's and the like) life

Hmm. Try closing Steam and opening it again. It might grab the patch automatically.

If not, do it this way. It's awkward, but it's the cleanest way.
Uninstall DoW2
Remove all local data from Steam
Run CCleaner or something similar to remove any DoW2 registry entries left over
Completely download DoW again
Download the patch from Relic's site, and apply it manually. (I'm not actually sure if this part will be needed. Steam usually downloads and runs patches automatically as the latest build)

It's probably your best bet.

Ah! If it's boxed, even better.

Firstly, do the uninstall
Now install it again, apply the patch from the Relic site and THEN start Steam.

The game's bloody brilliant.

your problem is not THQ or Relic, its the crap fest that is steam.

Eyes with out life.
Maggot ridden corpses.
Mountains of skulls.
These are some of my favorite things.

^woahhhh watch your mouth steam is and has been the shit (In a good way). Idk how people have problems with it, but then again i have been using it ever since like hl2 came out however many years ago. Do what the guy above said and just download your patch thro a portal or relics site. steam does have a problem grabbing now valve game updates but its not hard to do it yourself.

C'mon. That's not fair.
Steam works now. Sure, it took Valve a year or three and a half to get it how they invisioned, but it works now, and their business model would suggest plenty of people are happy enough with it, if their ability to constantly have sales is anything to go by.

maybe you dont have enough space on your hardrive. try clearing it out a bit and then it might work. if it doesnt then maybe its something wrong with the disk or what everyone else has been saying
