Default my computer = possessed

Does anyone have any explanation as to how my computer is picking up Radio stations and playing them?, sometimes several stations at the same time, its also playing adverts I hear on TV on the Sky Channels, no videos just audio.

also can anyone tell me HOW it keeps turning itself back on when I put it on standby?.

I have run every anti-virus I have and taken it to be checked by a professional and neither of us can figure out why, I'm not finding any viruses or anything out of place and neither was he, and it doesn't happen when I'm offline.

Have you spilt water on it? If that's the case, try shining a UV light, or leaving it in the sunlight.

Short of that, I'm not too sure ;D I've never heard of that myself, sorry.

The best I can offer is move your computer. Maybe because of hidden wires in the housing means it attracts the signals. Or maybe a ghost doesn't think pop-ups are annoying enough...

About the radio stations I was going to ask are you using a sound system? Mine plays faint radio when they are turned low. First time it did that I was freaking out hearing voices. Don't know why. Sorry I can't help with the other issue.

I have 10 year old 200watt PC speakers, and thats about as far as it goes sound system wise, nothing special round here, just basics

I know plenty of people who hate me and probably have "small devices", but I doubt any have the intelligence or money to afford or use specialist equipment

Try unplugging the speakers from your computer (but leave them powered on and turned up) if you're still getting noise it's probably the power line picking up signals. It's rare but it happens, especially if you live near a broadcast station

There's some RFI filters and whatnot you could get. A good quality surge protector might help too, or you could try just moving them around or wrapping the lines in tinfoil

Or buy new speakers. Poorly shielded speaker wires make good antennas...most portable radios use the headphone wires as an antenna

Turn off all wireless connections including bluetooth if you have them. If you rely on wireless for internet then i suggest either a better wireless card. (Galahad makes a good point too)

As per the computer switching itself on, windows is designed to go from standby into sleep mode if left in standby too long. If it switched itself on then doesnt switch itself off again into sleep maybe your BIOS is corrupt.

More likely than not it;s the speaker wires picking up signals. If you unplug them from the PC but leave them on and trned up and still pick up signals that's the problem.

If your computer is turning itself on it could be windows. My laptop used to automatically reboot whenever I turned it off or wake up when I put it to sleep or hibernate.

What it turned out to be was a conflict in vista's power management. I had to go into Control Panel | Device Manager, and manually check every piece of hardware and controller on my computer to make sure it wasn't set to allow it to wake up the computer. Turns out the modem, sound controller and wireless were all set to wake the computer, weird. I turned that function off and it workes fine now. (Right0click the device, hit properties and check for a Power management tab, there should be a checkbox for 'allow this device to wake the computer' or similar, uncheck it if it's checked)
