New to Xbox. What games are good?

Well, better late than never. I'm finally getting myself a 360, and I'd like everyone's help picking out some games.

What do you consider the 'must have' games for the 360? Give me some lists. I don't care how many you list, 1, 10, 58. Just give me what you think are the best, the "you gotta play this!" bunch of games.

Mass Effect is a nice buy at the moment if you like FPS and RPG's. It's a good mix of the two, and while it may not be the most mega awesome game in existance, it got alot of good praise for good reasons, fun to play, and cheap to buy.

The Gears of War series, naturally, would be the next step. I've never played them myself, but I'd probably be lynched if I did not include them.

Assassins Creed is quite a neat game aswell! Beautiful visuals.

Now, the one to definatly avoid is Halo 3. I loved the first two, and found the third very, very... very overhyped. It may be fun online, though, but, I found everything else to be a total bore, poor graphics and singleplayer, and, to be honest, weak mechanics.

1000pts Warboss Judge Skull'Umper
500pts Vostroyan & Cadian 119th

I played a bit of Halo 3 online at a friend's house, and yeah, I wasn't that impressed. I'd buy it, but only if I got one used for a sweet price.

Try Fallout3 that's a pretty sweet game if you like RPG.
Assains Creed is also good
Call of duty 4 modern warfare is good if you want an excellent storyline and shoot em up
Gears of War 1 & 2. GOW 1 is better i think then the second one. However you do get to kill lots of big monster in the second one

Mirrors edge. I played the demo and it kicks ass. As long as your not a "Gamer" who only playes FPSs. Halo 3 was fun as hell whats wrong with you people? I agree GOW is awsome. Call of duty is way over rated.

Anyhoo here is my list:
Mirrors edge
Halo3
devil may cry 4
CivRev
Dead space

And games yet to be out:
Halo wars
Final Fantasy XIII

I'm going to admit my tasts rarely match up with others, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

GoW 2, Dead Space and Mirrors Edge are all out now actually.

If you can play online then definitely think about getting Left 4 Dead- extremely atmospheric co-op game.

No love for the XBLA titles? Castle Crashers with 3 mates is probably the most fun i've had out of my 360 in a long time, good price as well.
