Default Dawn of War

Okay, I'm assuming that over 90% of the people on Heresy have got at least the basic Dawn of War, so this thread is for you.

Any crushing victories, defeats, epic or brilliant moments, or just anything you want to say about the game can go here.

I have some tactics that I'm working on and I'll post them here. But one word of advice i cna give you is this: unless you've got a tiny HQ area, don't keep everything compressed in one small place. Spread it out. E.G: if you have three listening posts, build the chapel barracks or whatever by one of them, the armoury by another and the machine cult or whatever by the third. Also, put one plsma generator in each Listening post area so that they're not all cramped up behind your base and to minimize explosion damage.

Thats about it for now.

I really don't feel a need for tactics in any dawn of war with any army. that game is too easy....

If you shit in one hand and wish in the other we all know which one will fill up faster.

And as I walk in the valley of the shadow of death I will have no fear For I am the scariest mother f*cker in that goddamned valley!

Yep, just build loads of squads early on, work away at the enemy till you can build dreadnoughts and whirlwinds(or equivalent), and they'll finish off most anything you come up against.

Not always. In multiplayer or against very high difficulty computers the game does become challenging.

In my opinion, one of the funnest things to do in the game is to just play around. By that I mean, try to win a game using something....out of the ordinary. For example, playing with an Assassinate victory condition and only using SM scouts w/ sniper rifles, only using basilisks and normal guardsmen to win an annihilate game, or making it a 1 Vs. 7 battle.

I stay crampd so I can bring the full fury of 1gazilion flashlights to bear.
Best victory ever was as orks on dark crusade vs eldar. They had taken over basicaly the whole map over the span of about 2 hours, and I was backed up into the platform my Buildings were on. I had 2 squads of slugga boys dieing to the swarm of eldar, and then I got a killakan. The killakan heald out for a while, and in that time I was able to buy the free slugas thing. Over the next 4 hours I spawned more and more sluggas from 5 diferent buildings fast enught to make up for horrendus losses. I eventualy pushed back the eldar to a relic, took it, and built a squigoth. I owe it all to that killakan. He died hapy though. No ork could resist a fight that big.

Imperial Guard, Into the Breach, Dawn of War Dark Crusade.

For players of that game, you will know that it's absolute hell for Guard to win. I had a Space Marine ally who did much of the Early fight until I had a Baneblade, and 3 Basalisks.

Everytime they launched an Assault, they were beaten back by Command Squads, Assassins, Kasrkin, (with Priest, and they damn amazing), the Basalisks, Baneblade, and about 6 Heavy Weapon Teams, while the Whirlwind managed to help shred the ranks. I kept going back and forth, but they decided to do without Infiltrate spotters for much of the fight. We were against 2 Space Marines.

Next thing I saw my colleague doing was the Scout Spam, and Plasmaguns. I decided to help out, and instead of building turrets, I placed more and more of the invisible mines. Then I placed my full quota of turrets. Mounting up a couple of his squads in Rhino's, he launched them through the breach. They were destroyed by the 2 Land Raiders, 4 Predators, and what looked like 20 Space Marine Squads all with Missile Launchers.

Using the tactical scan, I spotted one base - and got my three Basalisks to target it. Over the course of 20 minutes, after sending several attacks against the base to draw warriors away, and destroy the builders, I asked my ally to get lots and lots of scouts, and prepare to drop pod them in, and Teleport his Terminators into the base.

It was quite funny seeing this go on for nearly 4 hours. In the end, I think the guard had the most casualties, (2800+), while our opponents had in the region of 1500 in total. My ally had 800. I lol'd when I realised that 2 whole Chapters and an Imperial Guard regiment had been wiped out over that time.

Resources were in the millions, as well.

I did a 1 vs. 7 game and decided not to use certain things and I still won fairly easily.... guard I didn't bothertaking russes or a baneblade, marines no terminators, land raiders and only 1 pred, dark eldar no vehivcle or helions, sisters no saint or exorcist, tau no sky ray or broadsides. The game just isn't very challenging.... It's one of the easiest strategy games I've ever played....

First of all, no offense, but a game doesn't have to be challenging to be fun. Of course, if you need a challenge to have fun, then well, I guess I can't argue with you, lol.

Second, I'm not saying marines with no terminators, I'm saying something like marines with only tactical squads and dreadnoughts (no grey knights, termies, land raiders, predators, etc.). Also, what difficulty did you do 1 Vs 7? If Normal is too easy, try it on Hard, if that's too easy, got to Insane. If that's too easy, then you're some kind of a superintelligent robot!
