Default Will Winter Assault run on a 1.4GHz Processor?

Hi guys,

I'm feeling like a complete moron right now, I bought DOW and Winter Assault on Trademe (NZ's version of eBay) and found out that it won't work with my RAM so I haven't been able to play it yet. I've ordered more RAM (1GB), which I have been meaning to do for a while.

Now the question is, my computer only has a 1.4GHz processor, will Winter Assault (req 1.8 GHz) run on it, even if only on a very low setting.

Will it run? Yes. Will it run well? No. Games these days don't really require processing speed from the CPU. They rely heavily on the power of the video card's GPU and only really use the CPU as backup, so to speak.

It should but as Antioch said, not well. This of course depends entirely on what vid card you have. A decent one will do the trick but a bad one won't run any game well no matter how fast the cpu is.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

Games these days don't need your CPU nearly as much as they did. It's all graphics card and RAM. This is why you'll need to update more often now than you did before, unless, like me, you make a habit of buying the best graphics card available at the time, and riding it into obsolescence. It's cheaper that way, but means you can't play as many games as time goes on.

Speaking of which, why is it that AGP cards seem to cost more than PCI-E cards? While I understand that AGP has hit its limit with the new generation of video cards, on the video card it's just a bit of shaped plastic with metal connectors.

Cheers guys, the Video card like the CPU isn't to good (32) but it does meet the minium req, the RAM (when it gets here) will be double the minium so hopefully that should help.

O.k. so finally I've got hold the game after going through gods knows how many dramas. When I try and install it comes up with "Error 1327. Invalid Drive: F:/"

Any ideas of what to do?

EDIT: Never mind, I've downloaded a Steel Legion mod which allows me to play Guard, it an't perfect but its still the wee fellas so I'm happy. :D

Probably doesn't like the drive you installed DoW on originally.

The interface and layout of the board has to be different for AGP than PCI-E. You change around the way the connectors are layed out, you have to change around the wiring on the board. Because of that, AGP isn't as efficient, I guess, leading to problems trying to feed enough power to the beastly GPUs.

Ok no offence but I have no idea about anything of what you just said except for the last line. But I take it that it an't easily fixable by somebody who has no idea about the ins and outs of your post :D

Haha, my bad. The first sentence was directed at you. My advice is to uninstall DoW and reinstall if you haven't already. Don't worry about that last one, it was directed towards uber. Should've noted that.
