Default Photoshop for PC?

Hey, I've got a sweet new desktop for Christmas (cheers cypher ) and I'm wondering if I could get photoshop on it as I love it and it will make my GCSEs a lot easier if I can work from home
It has an intel core (8 I think), with windows home and student
So if I can get photoshop, how, how much?
And if not what the closest alternative if any?

So yeah, help welcome, good or bad news

Unfortunately Photoshop is pretty damned expensive - around 600 for CS6 last time i looked. I think you can get student licenses but you'd need to google it to see if it's actual viable.

A lot of people will 'acquire' it from other sources, but unless you're willing to go down that route or buy it i'd recommend GIMP.

GIMP is completely free and can do almost everything PS can.

I picked up my Adobe CS6 Design and Web premium for about 200, I think on a site called stuff 4 students or something. Got Office 10 for 60 too. You just have to prove you're in full time education.

Adobe recently made CS2 I think it was available for free, sure it's not the latest version but hey it's not like it's complete shit (I know professionals who were litterally jumping for joy when they did it because it meant they could finally do shit at home rather than at work without having to pay for it or resort to dodgy means).

Wasn't aware of this, that's pretty damn awesome.

CS2 is more than good enough for anyone with a casual interest in graphics.

Sweet about CS2! But is it compatible with the latest? And where do I find it?

Not sure what you mean with "compatible with the latest?"

Edit: Ah sorry correction, so it turns out I (and a lot of the internet by the looks of it were mistaken): http://www.forbes.com/sites/adrianki...ions-for-free/
