Default Bioshock 1

I'm sure many Heretics have played this. What are your thoughts on it?

I picked both 1 and 2 up last week for 20 bucks and I must say I'm finding 1 very hard to get into, I've just got that camera thing for one of the early quests in the Fisheries and I'm bored shitless frankly. Does it get any better?

I loved the aesthetics, although the talking shops were a touch repetitive after a while.

The camera is one of my favourite aspects: you can gain advantages by taking good photographs of enemies, but the camera counts as an attack with no damage so you have to either get close and franticly change weapons straight after or take it from further away and risk a poor result.

Its a great game if you really get into the atmosphere... if not then its rubbish. I found the controls really clunky for a FPS and the camera was great for a while but got really boring after a while... it also gets really really easy when you get used to how to take out the big daddies.

Having said that I simply love the game because it sets itself miles apart from basically any other game out there with the atmosphere: it really 'feels' grimy and decadent in a way that's hard to express until you get lost in it... really didn't feel the need to get any of the sequels though.

The first game was good, a nice creepy, haunted action shooter with a feel for RPG elements mixed in.

The second one was crap, I wouldn't even spend $5 on the darn thing.

Make yourself slog through it, Its not the greatest thing out there but its a good game. It can take a bit for it to grow on you at first, it did for me. But now i have played all three hungrily! The annoying bitz for me is the crappy (In my opinion) combat as well as the annoying shops.

...But the second is identical to the first in practically every way.

Either way, Bioshock 1 and 2 are both brilliant games. However, they're objectively shit compared to the System Shock games.

Have to say that my liking for Bioshock took a hit when I started playing FEAR2: the FEAR games have an equally immersive atmosphere but manage to be really smooth FPS games at the same time (except that 3 completely ruins it with achievements CONSTANTLY popping up on screen)... won't stop me loading up Bioshock and giving it a quick run through every now and again though.

EDIT- just had to laugh at myself: noticed Bioshock 2 hiding on top of my computer in a small pile of games that I've bought cheap and not played yet... it might have been there a while
