Default SWTOR getting Free to Play option!

BioWare has now announced that the free to play option hinted at by EA a few weeks back! See the announcement here.

Free to play users of the game will be able to play the entire story line from 1-50, but have some restrictions compared to "premium" players, aka subscribers. They will for example have a limit on how many Warzones, Flashpoints and Space Combat missions they will be able to access, and will be excluded from some newer content and Operations.

I loved this game, and I am personally very excited about this free to play option, even though I am quite likely to remain a paying subscriber. Higher pop count on planets never hurts.

I might pick it up again just so I can get to level 50 with my main character (I think I stopped around 42-45).

But that's if I can actually be bothered. It was an alright game but I still found it to be a dissapointment.

From iron, cometh strength. From strength, cometh will. From will, cometh faith. From faith, cometh honour. From honour, cometh iron. This is the Unbreakable Litany, and may it forever be so.

You likely did yourself a favor. Late game content was pretty empty. I did it once as a sith warrior and had to literally force myself through everything from Hoth on. I unfortunately tripped myself up during my play experience- I was more interested in the trying out various classes than I was pushing through content, so I went through the first story arc for several classes before moving on past Alderaan. Most of the initial story arcs were pretty good, so I was pretty pleased. Sadly once I did go further, the quality dropped dramatically. Had I leveled a character from the get go, I could have dropped the sub fees after the first month and happily left the game to rot.

This is a bizarre decision in my mind. The storylines are the only worthwhile content to the game. The excluded content is the really boring, repetitive stuff, so the FtP option means losing out on absolutely nothing of worth.

If you can play for free, I may finally be able to afford to get it
