I used to play both games in the series all the time, I love the series. Cool Ornstein avvie, by the way. That guy looks awesome but he's a douchebag XD

Death Korps W1 T0 L1

Also for those that don't know about the series the following animation gives you a idea what the games like.

Medusa: "I'm a witch, its my job to blaspheme against Gods."

Two Slaanesh daemons on the first go...hmm I guess the fates have spoken emperors children here I come

Your friend obviously needs to change his TV settings because the games have quite good graphics.

Dark Souls infuriates the fuck out of me but i love it. It's fucking difficult but it's the good kind of difficult. When you die it's your fault, you made a mistake and the game punished you.

Whilst it truly sucks to lose a big wad of souls you were carrying around, beating a boss that you kept dying on (that fucking chaos witch spider bitch) is euphoric.

I really like the atmosphere of the game and the soundtrack is lovely. The story's rather vague and all over the place but i assume that's us losing something in translation (though From Software plots are generally incomprehensible).

HOW TO PLAY DARK SOULS

Step 1: Walk into room.
Step 2: Be mobbed by dark knights/skeletons/feathers.
Step 3: Die.
Step 4: Respawn.
Step 5: Enter room again, ready to fight the monsters.
Step 6: Roll off edge.
Step 7: Die.
Step 8: Respawn.
Step 9: Enter room once more.
Step 10: Get stunlocked off the edge.
Step 11: Die.
Step 12: Respawn.
Step 13: Finally kill monsters.
Step 14: Proceed to next room.
Step 15: Be mobbed by dark knights/skeletons/feathers.
Step 16: Die.

Repeat ad infinitum.

I'm all about difficulty, I beat I Wanna Be the Guy and the old Mega Man games, as well as the Ninja Gaiden on xbox where the easiest difficulty was nightmare x1000. But these games are like a stress test thats out of control. Give me stunlocking exploding shurikens any day, at least dodging them won't send me off a cliff. Those are a test of skill, not psychological endurance. Dark souls and Demon souls are a Kobayashi-Maru test. No matter how hard you try, no matter how many times you try, you WILL throw your controller. You cannot succeed at avoiding this.

I don't know about that, i think it just requires a certain approach.

Accept that you will die, use those deaths as a learning experience. I go into a boss fight fully expecting to die the first time. However in the process i learn its moves, how they telegraph their attacks, what the environment is. Once i've learnt that it's a matter of using that knowledge to defeat them.

I never rush into a new area, i'm always cautious and expect an attack from any direction. Take nothing for granted. I think i've only died twice from falling or rolling of an edge and i'd count that as good game design. I was forced into a bad situation of my own making. I didn't check out the terrain, i was fool hardy or i got too close to that monster.

It's an exhausting and draining experience, but so rewarding when you do that perfect run or kill that boss. I'd also like to say i've never thrown my controller.
