Given the recommended specs (and the current specs of Diablo III to keep it at least relevant for the next couple of years haha), currently going around to refurbish centers and snooping around for what I want.

Basically: quad core AMD / i5 2nd gen - i7
NVidia 7800 or higher (2GB dedicated)
6GB Ram
GPU 512MB+

So far I've checked out the Dell outlet site, and found something promising for around $730... and the hunt continues!

Basically: quad core AMD / i5 2nd gen - i7 Good Choice
NVidia 7800 or higher (2GB dedicated) One of the GT2 or 3 series would be better, maybe even a 4
6GB Ram Another Good Choice
GPU 512MB+ This IS the Graphics Card.

Blame me for the confusion over 'GPU', you did after all say you were not tech savvy and i go and use an acronym. My Apologies.
For future reference it means ''Graphical Processing Unit' or simply 'Graphics Card'

Dell...O_o I could go on for a while as to why you shouldn't get a Dell. I will simply say: Avoid it if you can.

Depends, I hear good things about them from companies, as their service is pretty decent in a commercial context, though cheap and cheerfull from a consumer standpoint I agree.

I have heard people reccomend against the dell machines but so far(personally) they have a very good track record. My brother and i both had a pair of top spec inspirons from 2005 and one is still going 8 years later. The other only died because of dust ingestion(my workplace in png is terrible for that sort of thing) after 6 years. As for the alienware, I finally bit the bullet and bought an alienware m18x. Cost me damn near $4000 but the finnish and spec for the price is very good. I am extremly impressed with it so far and have had no issues to this point. For any high spec laptop dust is a terminal killer because of the required cooling systems. Mine lives in my AC unit at the worksite so it is reasonably protected. I have found it to be an even better machine than I expected and would certainly buy one again. Indeed i am looking at getting one for my son(not quite so high spec though). The performance is out of this world and probably completly unnecessary. The highest cpu load I have managed to get is about 15%(It is an 8 core I7) and the 32gb ram will keep me zooming along for a while. Gual 2gb gpu's make it easy for the processor. The only thing I did not do was upgrade the hard disk, but it is an easy one to install myself. Downside is it is bloody heavy, but that is not an issue for me.
