Default The Legend of Grimrock

Hey Guys,

I was on youtube recently (more Yogscast really! I love those guys, they're freaking funny!) and I came across them doing a spotlight on a new game by Almost Human called "The Legend of Grimrock" I thought it looked pretty cool in terms of style and game play, but while watching Simon and Lewis mentioned it was inspired by Dungeon Master.

As much as I love video games I can't say I've heard of this game but for those fanatics out there they probably have played it, so my question to you guys at Heresy Online is what're your thoughts and experiences playing "The Legend of Grimrock" and how does it compare to Dungeon Master? Also Any tips on Legend of Grimrock because I've just started it and I am so N00bish when it comes to this game I wanna enjoy it like a Boss!

Haven't played Dungeon Master, so can't tell you about that. Legend of Grimrock is pretty enjoyable so far, but I fear I might get bored later. While dungeon is masterfully crafted, gameplay can get little boring as there is not much in it (yeah, riddles and secrets are great, but combat is repetitive, and it can get frustrating a little, some enemies are really, really tough). Im currently at beginning at lvl 6, playing with 1 warrior minotaur, 1 human warrior and 2 insectoid mages (one fire and ice, other earth and spellcraft). I didn't take rogue, cause there are not much weapons he could use in first two levels, but I may have made mistake as there are some really nice items for rogue later. Earth magic is not very usefull, to many enemise (all undead) are immune to poison damage. I will start to branch him out in Air magic.

As for tips. I don't know. Look everyone, even down the holes, because there are some secrets/items there. Save often. For skills, i recommend armor for warriors, and ice for mages(first ice magic can hit a lot of them in line, and frostbolt has a chance for freezing enemies). Take everything with you, especially rocks and throwing weapons, they are necessary for many riddles. Look at every wall for triggers, thankfully they always look same and are easy to spot.

PS: some mod should move this to videogames.

From what I've played so far, I've seemed to enjoyed it. It's very different to what I've played so far in comparison to other video games. The riddles, knowing that you might be killed around each corner, riddles of puzzles I like of course and to see if I can make it to the bottom of Mt.Grimrock?

But It's up to you really. I recomend watching the Yogscast on their take on it. Its quite funny. Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Oh lol, good to see I'm not the only one that likes them. The game does look like a lot of fun, and for a cheap price, but I have had no experience with this kind of game before. Is it a bad way to get in to this genre?

I've never had any experience with this type of genre before but I am a custom to God of War so some of the puzzle solving skills d come into play with this game. The Fighting in this game is really different and I thought it was a little difficult at first but once you get the controls down pat it's not so bad.

I am on the 3rd lvl at the moment and it's great facing new enemies and trying to fight off mosters and going deeper into the lower levels of Grimrock, so in my opinion for the price you pay I'd definately recomend you buying it and if you watch the Yogscast they will help you understand the game a little better with some comedy thrown in there for good measure. Ha ha!

DO IT! PLAY IT! YOU MUST DO IT!

Dungeon Master was great and this has been quite nostalgic. Fun indeed.
