Default Game going under?

Alot of buzz that the store chain Game is about to go belly up after many games studios and distributors have refused to supply them due to how they operate with secondhand sales, alot of the stores are clearing stock at the moment

It really doesn't surprise me, They simply can't compete on prices with Supermarkets and online retailers

A sad loss for the community yes, but it won't impact on the industry

I personally have never been a fan since more and more game stores (and to a lesser exent HMV now) have started turning into second hand stores which sells the pre owned for 4 less, or in many cases more than new copies, personally I'd rather pay an extra 4

Or shop at Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, or Morrisons

The staff are getting really pushy as well, I was in the Southampton store last week and within 2 secs we were ambused by 3 staff, trying to pursuade us to get a new console!

Yeah i really don't like Game. Haven't done for a long while. As said above, over priced new games, overly priced second hand games(I've found second hand games for sale in Game more expensive than a new copy from another store or online) pushy staff and others. This applys to quite a few stores aswell though, but I never understand how 40 odd games handed in can come to around 12. I even went to see how bad it is when Battlefield 3 came out. Bought from play.com on the day of release, went to Game a week later to see the trade in price, Games offer was 4. I mean really?

It's not just the 2nd hand thing, they have recently had to cancel all the pre-orders for mass effect 3 because they couldn't pay for the copies their customers had ordered.

They are in serious trouble, and i can't see a way for them to get out. Unless they can make buying games a social experience for anyone other than teenagers, i can't see them going much longer.

Its a shame really, i always shop at my local Game Station as i find the guys there alot nicer than the actual Game staff.

Plus living in Basingstoke i know a few people and one close friend who will be affected by this, even he is convinced they are going under is looking for a new job.

for a long time ( felt very soulless , corporate) as gamestation was usually better.

Good thing in my opinion. Game have always been unhelpful when I have gone there. I even got a sneer from one of them when I disagreed with his view of what was best (he recommended MW3 over BF3).

Always HMV for me! Much more friendlier, tell me when they will get more stock if they have run out and sell games at a much more decent price.

I have recently started a new Blog. I would really appreciate it if you would LOOK AT IT

Any store that doesn't (or hasn't) immediately started making moves towards online distribution are going to rapidly lose any grip on the market whatsoever. Steam, Battlenet, EA... They all have zero overheads except a server farm and any percentage going to the developers. Firms still dealing with physical goods that are not second hand will likely be well out of business by 2016-18. Simple economics.

90% of people think they are above average.

Statistically Improbable. Psychologically Inevitable.
