It has to do with the fact that it acts like spyware. When the program is installed it scans your entire computer and reports back to EA what it finds. It scans pictures, movies, favorites, other games and programs, and music that you have stored on your hard drive. You agree to all of this, by way of agreeing to the EULA, which if you disagree with you can't use Origin. If if you can't use Origin you can't play any EA games on PC, as they will all be using Origin for DRM. You can't opt out of any part of the EULA, it's all or nothing. This is the part people hate.

Now, the other side to this coin is that it also states in the EULA that the data taken by Origin is not to ever be sold or given to any third parties, and is only being taken to see how players utilize their PC's. Basically finding out if people are using PC's for mostly gaming or web browsing or work. This is the part people ignore in the EULA.

People are worked up over the invasion of privacy. It's bad, but people are making it out to be like EA is gonna have people viewing all your photos and watching all your movies. That's not going to be the case.

Can you not just install it and not start it up? like Steam, i have never run Steam yet Space Marine and Sonic Generations run without it being started.

I have to run Steam to get SM to work, same with any game that runs through it.

I don't like Origin simply because I don't like having to run it, along with my browser, in the background while I game. I prefer my system resources to all go towards the game.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

Evil Avatar did a thing on this concerning ME3 on PC. Link below:

http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/sho...16#post2086816

Quote for people that don't want to leave:

Quote:
1) Will Origin be a requirement to play all versions of Mass Effect 3? (Digital and/or from a retail brick and mortar store)
Yes, Origin is required for all PC editions of Mass Effect 3, physical or digital.

2) Is constant Origin connection required or is it a single one off authentication when the game is first installed. Is there also a limit to the number of installations available?
Mass Effect 3 will require a one time, single authorization for the single player game. There is no limit to the number of installs. Playing Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer will require a constant connection.

3) Is Origin required for the retail versions of the game?
Origin is required for the PC versions of Mass Effect 3, both physical and digital.

4) Will ME3 be available on Steam?
During initial release Mass Effect 3 will be available on Origin and a number of other 3rd party digital retailers, but not on Steam at this time. Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content. We are intent on providing Mass Effect to players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers.

5) Is there an opt in or opt out clause for data collection?
Users will be allowed to opt-out of Mass Effect 3 data collection from inside the game.

6) I’ve seen reports that Origin is spyware. Is this true?
Origin is not spyware, and does not use or install spyware on user’s machines. In order to allow Origin to install games and their patches for everyone to use, Origin implements a permission change that results in Windows, not Origin, reviewing the filenames in the ProgramData/Origin folder. This is an ordinary Windows function, not an information-gathering process.
Hope this answers some questions for people that are concerned. Also of note, and concerning question 2, ME 3 has a multiplayer component so I am assuming you must be connected to Origin while playing that.
