Default Call of Duty vs Battlefield

Hey guys.

Everyone loves a good rivaly; especially when two companies/teams/people are at the top of their respective fields. So us FPS gamers are spoiled for choice over the next fortnight and I'm just curious about the Heresy community's thoughts and opinions.

1. As a series which do you prefer, Battlefield of Call of Duty and why? (Remember both games go waaayyy back)

2. Which is your favourite game in each of the series of games?

3. Will you be getting Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3 or BOTH or NEITHER!

4. General thoughts and opinions.

My Answers:

1. I prefer Battlefield and also have ever since I got to play 1942 on my friend's PC (back in the day lol). That's not to say that the Call of Duty series hasn't had some great games, its just that I like the more team orientated gameplay, destructive surroundings and emphasis on vehicles.

2. Call of Duty 2 blew my mind away. I completed the game on the Hardest difficulty and it took both myself and my friend over 6 months to complete. We spent roughly 3-4 months on the D-Day landings as they were the most atrociously hard piece of crap ever. Scaling that mountain, taking out 88's and praying to Jesus, Allah and all the rest that we didn't get carved to pieces. Plus the Soviet campaign was the absolute bomb, it was sooo much fun being thrown into the defence of Moscow then heading to Stalingrad for some Enemey at the Gates action (but alas no Rachel Weisz in sight!!!).

3. I'm getting BF3 on its release day, and I MIGHT get MW3 for Christmas, but I'm very gunshy after the cluster f*ck that was Black Ops. Then again I should have known better when I read it was being made by Treyarch.

4. Call of Duty tends to be running and gunning and lone wolfing it. BF3 is all about Headsets and teamwork, with each member choosing a seperate class and helping each other.

In saying that, I hate the amount of K/D ratio whores on both games, cuz I'm all about the win. I'll trash my K/D ratio if it means a team victory, but some people on both games care waaaayyyy too much about the kills and forget that online games are suposed to be 1. FUN 2. SOCIAL.

Anyway, what say you?

Although I have not played any Battlefield games, I am more interested in BF3 than I am in MW3. This is due to the fact that Call of Duty has strayed from what made it great for me in the first place.

Call of Duty 1 was one of the first FPS's I had ever played, and it had such a variety of missions; straight up fights, sniper missions, stealth missions (sneaking onto the German Battleship. Awesome) and who can say no to the Stalingrad mission. A Plus.
However, the Modern Warfare franchise has IMHO just pushed the limits of Call Of Duty to the sheer ridiculous. I will admit to enjoying Modern Warfare 1, MW2 was just too over the top. Jumping over enormous chasms on snowmobiles? A section assault on Burger King? No thanks.

One of the main reasons I enjoyed the original WWII shooters CoD made was that I found it to have some grounding in reality, whereas, as I have said earlier, the MW franchise is Over The Top.

Seeing the trailer of BF3, it seems to be more realistic and more 'mature'. We all know (and hate) the 10 year old market that the CoD franchise markets to. And on a side note, I hate those people that believe that CoD began with MW. Idiots.

Anyway, thats my 2c.

I like them both actually and it depends on my mood which I will play. I do prefer the BF3 style of teamplay better than CoD but there are nearly as many occasions where the lone wolf style of CoD fits the mood better. Short story: I will play, and thoroughly enjoy, both.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

Wow. This is what qualifies for a genuine rivalry these days? Two games with similar textures but completely and utterly different playstyles and tactics? Not a touch on one another. They're marketed to a similar age group but vastly different people.

Look back on Quake vs. Unreal, on the other hand, and THAT'S a fight worth watching.

EDIT: Poll needs "I have standards so I'm not happy unless I can rocket jump in a game" option.

I've always preferred CoD because they get the guns right. BF always felt like I was a whimsical cherubim playing from atop my bubblegum-flavored cloud.

I will be getting both games. I love fps. I feel that the multi player will be better than call of duty due to vehicles, destructible terrain, and ” real world physics” like bullet drop. Although I feel that call of duty has the better story line overall. I love call of duty but battle field 1942 was the first online fps that I played when I was younger so I think I will always love the game.

Wow. I read it as 'Nah, I hate PS3'. Seriously? Wow, I need to do more reading. Is there any way I can change my vote? Also, I'd prefer MW3, or even better, GOW3.

lolwut?

Someone obviously missed the point.

Anyways, Call of Duty once was a vibrant series, but I was in Middle School while that was true. Now it's just an outdated relic, that people love way too much nowadays. The series has lost any innovation it may have once had.

Battlefield is also one of the old guns, but there is a semblance of change there. I'm curious to see how things turn out there, and if it will fall prey to similar mistakes as CoD. It is one that still has a chance, however.

Writer of crappy fics, I hope you might derive some enjoyment from them.

I like both. ANd I think that there is a rivalry cause they're competeing for the same group of customers. And that is good, I think CoD got complacent.

Has anyone had the dream about a Battlefield type game in the 40K universe. Not the crapy 40K games we have now but an honest to god real good game made by a real publisher? Running around and jumping into Dreadnaughts, land raiders, and Laman Russes. Having classes like Assault Marine, terminator, eldar ranger, loota and such.

Have guns, will travel...
