Basing with paper

Hello everyone,

Has anyone ever tried basing with paper.

I was down at Michaels yesterday and while my wife was looking through the scrap booking paper, I noticed some heavily textured paper. It looked like cracked earth (The kind you would find in a desert).

I was thinking that this might make the process simplier while still looking good. I was thinking of using it as a base and then adding the odd bushel of crab grass/bones/etc etc. Would this look funny?

If I go on with it, I'll post some pictures.

I have used textured wallpaper to simulate cracked earth for one of my gaming boards. I used it on the Dwarf and Goblin armies I built the table for as well. It looks great and is fairly durable. Most heavy models I pinned to the base though, as the model tended to rip off the paper. Not sure about scrapbooking stuff, but I got a huge roll of the wallpaper for about $5.
