Default Chaos Unleashed DLC review

Chaos Unleashed DLC review

Chaos Unleashed is available from Xbox Live, PSN and Steam for 800 MSP/6.99€. The PC version was tested in the review.

Chaos Unleashed was released already some time ago for Space Marine, and it adds three new multiplayer map and a new Exterminatus map, where you and three other Chaos Space Marines are pitted up against the Imperial Guard, Ultramarines and Orks. The pack also includes ten new achievements/trophies.

The three new multiplayer maps: Habs Ablaze, Station Tertius and Aquila Canyon are available in all game modes, and they have clearly been given more thought than the four original ones that were in the game. I have especially fond memories of all those hours spent stalking through the ruins of Habz Ablaze.

But the three multiplayer maps are not the reason you will be buying this game. You will be buying it for the new Exterminatus one. The map is superior to the two originals for two reasons, more variety in enemies, and all the arenas are brand new, so no reused campaign segments or multiplayer maps.

This time around they have thrown the Imperial Guard into the mix. You will be slaughtering everything from standard Guardsmen to Primaris Psykers. Yes, Primaris Psykers. And they are though, and not to mention dangerous son of a bitches.

The old man is more dangerous than he looks

Not only have they added Primaris Psykers into the game now, but Imperial Guard sergeants as well, and specialist weapon troopers armed either with Meltaguns or Grenade Launchers. You also get to kill Ultramarines. And this should please some people. Easier said than done though. Killing one is possible, but they more often than not operate in squads of three, sometimes even more, meaning that you will have a though time trying to take them all down your self. So remember to bring friends. They will be needed.

You also get to fight orks, and sometimes all three factions are on the same field, resulting in a nice twist, with all factions engaging each other in a three way battle. Guardsmen and Astartes will be fighting orks just as much as they will be trying to take you and your companions down.

Blue bastards have an obsession with plasma cannons

I am yet to manage to complete the new map. It is a lot harder than the original ones, so if the campaign did not feel like a challenge, then this might be for you.

The new map has its flaws though. At times it can suffer from some serious lag, since the number of opponents is often quite high due to there being more than one faction on the field, and then there is the fact that the majority of people have moved on to the more recent "Dreadnought Assault DLC", which in all honesty, is a lot more exciting, leaving you with a lower player population and longer searching times.

"Chaos Unleashed" does unfortunately stumble slightly due to a few glitches, like hits on Guardsmen at times failing to register, and some of their walking animations looking very clunky. At times they seem to be moon walking. But for some reason this seems to only be in the first of the Chaos Invasion maps four arenas for some reason.

I give Chaos Unleashed a 7/10. It could have used some more polish, and the slightly lower player population in the game mode can during the morning hours cause long search times. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a challenge, great multiplayer maps or hates Ultramarines.

I loved this DLC!
I've only made it to wave 10 on it sadly, we always get murdered by the Ultramarines or those damned Psykers.
