Default Simpsons at risk to being canceled!

http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2...ontract-issues

Quote:
We can hear a resounding "d'oh" from Simpsons fans around the world: After 23 seasons of animated entertainment and billions of dollars of profits, The Simpsons may be coming to an end.

According to The Daily Beast, 20th Century Fox plans to pull the plug on the long-lucrative series due to failed contract negotiations with the six voice actors behind America's favorite animated family. Fox apparently incited the bitter battle by offering the cast an ultimatum: they could either take a whopping 45% pay cut or the show would come to end with the current season, the last episode of which is set to air next Spring.

Dan Castellaneta (Homer and others), Julie Kavner (Marge and other), Nancy Cartwright (Bart and others), Yeardley Smith (Lisa), Hank Azaria (Moe Szyslak, Chief Wiggum, Apu and others) and Harry Shearer (Mr. Burns and others), make quite a bit of bank, almost $8 million dollars each year. If they were to accept Fox's offer, they would make around $4 Million. Still a sizeable chunk of change, but a massive downgrade in dollars, nonetheless.

While the cast has counter-offered, agreeing to take a 30% pay-cut in exchange for a small percentage of the profits from the show's syndication, merchandising and other back-end profits that they have long been cut-out from, Fox isn't biting and has opted to play hardball instead.

While we've long debated the decline in the quality of the show's humor, we can't help but feel a strong sense of loss when faced with the threat of Springfield's impending apocalypse. Are we the only ones unprepared for Homer's abrupt departure?

Not watched it in ages, but I would still be saddened to see the show get cancelled.

Fox are idiots, $8 million per cast member for that show is peanuts and they know it,pay up and let the comedy continue or let it go and let another TV company pick it up and run with it like they did with Futurama which they canned because they felt it was taking away veiwers from the simpsons ffs!!!

i am not saddened at all

i fully support the voice actors, if fox is going to pull shit like this with such a big show, its going to start happening all over fox if they give in.

and lets face it, the actors wont be struggling for more work will they?
'oh, so youve worked on the simpsons for ages...im sorry, you just arent experienced enough for this project' (not fuckin likely)

Ive started to update this project loge again, you should all check it out. it has some stupid things on it, and some fun things on it haha

Fox are morons... hell, just look how many shows slag them and their executives off... Even on their own channel.

With the ammount of money they make off of Simpsons, $8million its like asking for less then a 1/100th of what the show makes yearly.

That said though... the quality of the shoews been in real decline in recent years... its just not as funny and edgey as it used to be. I'd still be sad to see it go, and I'd miss it if it did... but seriously, fox are just showing themselves to be a bunch of dumbasses yet again.

No loss if they did axe it in my opinion. It stopped being funny years ago. There was a time when you got a belly laugh out of the Simpsons every ten minutes. You're lucky to get one every ten episodes nowadays.
