I hope it lives up to the book.

Really loved the book, read it when I was a kid, and again a few years ago. I'm pretty sure the movie will be good, as the lotr-movies was a great adaption from the books.

Movies are almost never as good as the books, but this still should be pretty good. Just don't get your hope up *too* much.

Well, I really enjoyed the lotr-movies, especially the extended versions (as the shorter ones had too much missing). The first one came out right after I had finished reading all the books, and I still enjoyed them.
But generally movie adaptions of books tend to be kind of crap. Just look at all movies based on stephen kings novels, most of them are worthless exept for a few. (although even the crappy ones are called classics)

I've only ever watched The Shining, but even that was the worst of Kubrick's set of movies. Kubrick is a kind of exception to this rule, making some very good adaptations of novels, but this would start to get off-topic if we were to discuss that.

Just trust me when I say that most of them are crap. But yeah, lets not go too off-topic.
I hope that the movie will keep as true to the book as possible, but I think we can trust Jackson on that one. I love that guy. (And I also love that he started out with weird movies like Bad Taste, Braindead and Meet the feebles, and are now a big hollywood producer)

i hope he doesnt keep to the book, i hope he does exactly what he did with the LOTR and makes it his own, the hobbit is a far better book for film than the other three, but like alot of books it still need adapting for the screen and hes doing it in 3D so the environments and the visuals need more than whats on the page, he will bring it to life, plus hes got a trusty awesome 2nd unit director in andy serkis.
