Loved the Rings movies and with Jackson directing this as well I am sure I will love these. The Hobbit was actually the first Fantasy style book I ever read, in fact it was the first full book I read on my own once I moved up from childrens books at around 6 or 7 so I am really digging the idea that they are filming this. My only fear is that they will fuck up Smaug as it always seems like dragons in movies are just not that well portrayed. Still, the Fellbeast that the Nazgul rode were awesome looking so there is hope.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

Jackson takes being a Tolkien geek to another level above and beyond many so I think Smaug will look proper, it is too much a part of the story for him to slack at that point.

those two are gimili 's dad and uncle (gloin and oin)
the first three are "filler" dwarves the three brothers, the major ones are the ones im waiting for, they are being performed by some serious British and Irish actors, plus looks like martin freemans got his mate Benedict Cumberbatch a job as the voice of smaug, oringinaly it was supposed to be spock but looks like he either dropped out or they dropped him, he is getting very old though maybe they didnt want to risk him.

The pic came from toplessrobot.com and he pretty much said the same thing :-p I am assuming all of them will look more dwarflike with background movie effects. The stock stand in a grey room thing might be making them look like shit. Or they are all a bunch of elf/dwarf love children
