Default Thor

I am very impressed with Marvel Studios this evening, and very much awaiting Cap'n america now.

Thor is a really nicely crafted popcorn flick, with a solid story and a great lead. To draw a comparison it's easily as good as iron man, and has a lot of the same things going for it.

When i first saw they were setting parts of the film in Asgard, i was excited, but also worried they wouldn't pull it off very well. I love the Asgard world in the comics, but it has a tendency to be a bit 'silly' and I didn't see that mixing well with the stuff set on earth. I was however, proved wrong, and Asgard is realised as an awesome fantasy world providing the backbone to the story, whilst Thor jaunts around on earth learning about humility and what it truly means to be a hero.

The effects are great, Asgard itself looks gorgeous, and there are just enough epic fights to keep the pace rolling along nicely. I never usually notice costumes in films, but they did a really good job getting the fantasy stuff spot on.

Acting wise, it's a top notch cast all round, with special mention going to Thor himself. The part is written really well, and he brings charisma by the bag load. You can tell Chris Hemsworth is having a ton of fun being the god of thunder - who wouldn't want to play an arrogant norse god walking around in the real world? i could watch him smash cups in the middle of a cafe, demanding "more of this fine drink!" all day.

On the downside i thought the romantic subplot was a bit meh, and the end did teeter off a bit, but this is the first film this year that i've wanted to watch again straight after viewing. It's a proper 'fun' blockbuster.

That said though, the 3D is utterly pointless! Whilst i was glad they didn't play up the gimmicky aspect by having hammers coming at you through the screen, there is absolutely no added depth to any of the scenes. The only way i knew it was a 3D film was by taking the glasses off. Definitely see it, but avoid paying for 3D if you can avoid it.

As a final note for the comic fans out there, you'll be pleased to know there is a nice avengers 'cameo' in the movie itself, and as always there is the obligatory end of credits teaser. Stan lee is also in there with his best appearance to date

Bah it isn't out here yet or I would have seen it already.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

Saw it today, and really enjoyed it. It didn't take itself too seriously, as some of the previous Marvel films have. I didn't bother with the 3d, because, frankly I think it's a gimmick. Unfotunately the copious amounts of 7up drank during the film dictated against watching the end of credit snippet. Any chance of enlightening me in spoiler tags?

3D is a gimmick, but in some cases it's utilised to good effect and does enhance the film. You chose well here though, i cannot begin to describe how pointless the 3D is.

and here's your EOF scene

What your thinking was is the case, is what was in the case. So it'll prove to be interesting to see what they do with it :D

I thought it was surprisingly good, with some nice twists. Loki worked better than I thought he would.
