Having not yet seen Battle: Los Angeles, my list of my favourite Sci-fi movies that I can recall off the top of my head are as follows:

You know, feel pretty sad that none of the stuff mentioned here is new to me.

If none of you have seen it, I'd recommend Event Horizon. I thought it was a pretty cool Sci Fi horror that reminded me a lot of 40k(mostly just that faster than light travel is done by going through hell).

Other stuff that I'd mention has already been mentioned.

Star Wars

Simply the best for over 30 years, its so good its actually unfair to include it anything but its own catagory, its importance to cinema is often over looked but its because of the effect Star wars had on our culture that your are having this debate,SciFi was a cinematic laughing stock until star wars(very similar effect allthough not as powerful as lord of the rings for fantasy films in manyways) changed how its was viewed.Add to that the effect the subsiduary companies that were brought to life from George Lucas's imagination and money have had on cinema as a whole and you have your answer.

Name another film from the 70's(or any year for that matter) thats currenty selling millions of dollars of merchandise, has a 3 season cartoon showing,is the top selling bluray and is being developed in 3d for cinema re-release (for the third time?) and is the second highest grossing movie of all time and even the mighty Avatar couldnt beat it and its legacy is seen in almost all blockbuster movies in the last 20 or so years.
little know fact Pixar (toy story etc) was created by Lucas back in the 70's and sold to apple and eventually Disney
Also ILM has 15 oscars and 23 nominations, not bad from a company that Lucas had to stitch back together after the first star wars movie because as is the way in hollywood back then they were all temporay contractors.

HUGE BITZ RESTOCK NOW ON

There are only two possible answers:
  • "Sunshine"
  • "I haven't seen Sunshine"
