Watched it in my college Spanish class last semester. I'd definitely recommend it for anyone, really.

We watched it without subtitles, so I can't speak to the accuracy of the translation...if at all possible, I'd suggest doing without them. It adds just a little bit to the movie imho.

i remember the movie, Dad rented it a while ago and we watched it, i loved it as i dont mind subtitles (blame anime) but the rest of my family didnt like it cause of subtitles. that monster thingy was pretty cool, rather scary compared to a lot of other horror shows

Watched it on cable. Disturbing in parts, and quite creepy in others, still a good fillm.

Guillermo Del Toro is one of my more favourite directors.

I really enjoyed it when I saw it - it was very strange and not at all like I expected it to be, particularly the setting.

The only damn thing wrong with the movie was its marketing campaign.

On its own merits, it's phenomenal.

The translation is a LITTLE off, but it gets the gist of things right.

And knowing the history of the Spanish Civil War helps.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

I've only seen the bit with the monster that has the eyes in its hands. I swear, that was pretty high on my creepyness list.

great movie, was kind of skeptical but was glad my friend dragged me to the theater.

Pan was the name of the greek god of shepherds. He was shaped as a faun. Pan is also used to as a word for faun. They probly just thought Pan's labyrinth was more catchy then faun's labyrinth.

Since the Castillian title was "El Laberinto Del Fauno" or somesuch? Yeah.

The Greek God we know as Pan (Panos in Greek) was as Roamnized as (a) Faun - in other words, "Faunus" is the Latin equivalent of "Panos".

Only in English "Faun" is a frollicking woodland creature a la Mr Tumnus in Narnia who buys Christmas presents and has little girls round to eat scones.

Pan, however, is a terryfying God of the Wildwood and origin of the word "panic", who has little girls round and fucks them with his 3 foot long goat-shlong.

So, that's probably why they decided that "The Faun's Labyrinth" was probably not the right way to translate the Spanish title, despite being etymologically more accurate. Semantically they're not the same, in much the same way that "wolf" and "lapdog" aren't the same, despite, technically, the one merely being a specialised version of the other.

:cyclops in a semantic minefield:

"Well it's Forty-one Thousand Nine Hundred Sixty-nine OK -
Gotta war across the Milky Way - "
Iggius Popiscus and the Stoogii, "41,969"
