No offence, but American TV isn't very good at making British remakes... However, the other way around, The Apprentice comes to mind ;D

No offence taken. American TV isn't very good at making American TV. It is either a bunch of cop shows or a bunch of hospital shows. That or you get these so called "reality" shows that have ZERO reality in them. You might get a comedy that is good, but it gets old and boring after 3-4 seasons and then drags on for another 5-10 years killing your brain cells if you continue to watch them.

Japanese TV has the right idea. When a show hits its peak, and can't get any better numbers or larger... they cancel it. They go out on a high note, no dragging a dead horse through the mud for a few extra years just to soak up any extra revenue they can get out of it.

For British to US tv shows that had any success, the only one that I can think of that is OK is "The Office." I don't much care for it personally, but there have been a few times I caught myself watching it and laughed at some of the antics.

For a funny British comedy other than any of the Monty Python movies, my pick would be "A Fish Called Wanda." I am sure there are a ton more, I just can think straight after eating roughly 3 Lbs. of turkey!

That reminds me of a police chase program we were watching, it was literally me and my brother sat in silence, watching a car swerve across a road.. Riveting! *rolls eyes*. I think some things like The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park are all pretty good, mostly because they have a massive teenage fanbase. But remaking Top Gear means there is only so much you can do to keep it with the UK version. But I don't see why 1. It's on the History Channel, I mean wtf? and 2. If the UK one is being broadcast over there (I think it's on something like BBC world or something?), why remake it? Why ruin the original...

I don't watch a lot of Japanese telly, but yeah, I think we're beginning to do that, there is a television program called "The Bill", over the past 4 or so years, it has been losing numbers and in 2009 it went in a completely different direction (I was a big fan of it, and I hated this change..), and a year later it got cancelled. Makes sense really...

Top Gear is on BBC America. The REAL Top Gear that is. The only bitch I had with it was they used to cut the show by 15-20 minutes so they could get the commercials in during the 60 minute time slot. So, we lost literally 1/4 of the show. With series 15 they started to run the episodes in its entirety and have made it a 120 minute time slot. Still have commercial breaks but we get the entire program now. Nothing wrong with it, it is great and its popularity here is big. There was no reason what so ever for there to be a US version.

The US version is a total and unoriginal rip off of the real show... but done so badly it was laughable at best. The worst was the test track. The grass around the track wasn't cut so it was 2 feet tall, the course was lined with hay bales, road cones, barriers and other shit. It didn't have the open and clean look the real shows track has. The douche bags that host the show are horrible and there is no originality. They are doing the same exact skits and stuff the real show has already done to begin with. Kind of like watching your favorite movie that has been badly dubbed over. It just isn't easy to watch or get into.

As for the reason it is on History channel is I guess they wanted to waste the money on an epic failure.
