Default Budget Zombie Movie Plot Ideas

I've decided I'm going to write a screenplay either to have turned into a movie by a producer or something I'll look to do myself.

As for the actual movie has anyone got any non cliched plot ideas? I have a rough idea of where I want it to go but figured getting a bit of feedback now might be worthwhile.

The basic stipulation is that it has to be set in the modern era and obviously be within low budget realms. IE no fucking huge explosions or sick CGI.

Right. Well, the limitations of explosions, kinda limits my creative flow, However, as a great appreciater of Zombism, I will conceed to my flaws, and offer some aid.

I would fray from the typical introduction; and cut straight into it, with zombies being there, and try to develope a story line into everyday survival-
- People like me go and see zombie films for zombies getting owned in cool ways, so think of ways you can incorporate that.

- STORY LINE ISN'T PRIORITY 1. Just keep the story simple, to hold it together, at the end of the day, Zombie Films aren't viewed for the emotion struggle of a man, but awesome zombie KO's.

I've gotta dash, more later.

It'll be pretty difficult to avoid slipping into a cliche. I guess the first question to answer would be slow zombie or fast? That will likely determine the feel of the film. A faster zombie type will make for a pretty frantic pace, whilst a slower zombie type makes for a slow-but-inexorable-march-toward-death kind of feel. Slower will also be a bit more 'classic', whilst fast will put you into the more modern feel.

Do it from the point of view of a zombie.

Maybe they all aren't completely mindless abominations that shamble around. The searching for brains to eat, the countless hours and days of being zombified and the final demise of our hero would be a twist no one has done before. It's gotta be a struggle to be a zombie. Think about it. There is usually millions of them and their food source is a dwindling resource of human brains. With a withering food source, (that is also hard to catch and it also likes to fight back!) zombie over population, the situation becomes rapidly dire and the natural instinct of survivalism has to kick in. I see a zombie as the mentality of a dumb gorilla. Priority is food followed by a bunch of grunting and such. Ok, maybe caveman mentality, but the two are not far off...

(If you use this, I want my name in the credits damn it! )

(better yet, a role in the film... )

I like the zombie films the hold good plots. If you wanted to start the movie of how the zombie plague or virus spread that would probably have to be cliche. I thought the animal activists in 28 days was hilarious. Perhaps a lost plant in the forest that somehow finds its way to an animal and mutates the rabies virus, then the animal bites a human. You can pretty much blaime animals for anything.

As for the plot, I've always thought it interesting people are running through zombies almost unnecessarly. But of course, you need this to get someone bitten for the rising conflict. It would be interesting to set a story in which the protagonists need to go through the zombies almost daily to get resources. One day... someone screws up and gets bitten. Returns to their big strong hold and have something happen in there.

Never heard of that one before. I guess I will have to watch it now.

Here I was thinking I was being all creative and junk.

Second attempt...

A guy is running a meth/crack lab in his shit hole apartment and cooks up some really killer stuff. So killer it turn all his meth/crack head customers into zombies that are not only going through meth/crack withdraw but now have the usual cannibalistic desires to eat human flesh. Crack head zombies, I cannot think of much worse than that.

Base it on a nerd who's been playing warcraft/some other MMO for so long he doesn't realise the zombie outbreak has occurred until there's no one left in the game.

Then he can go on a journey of discovery to become the hero he desperately wants to be in his game.
