I AM THE ZOMBIE KING! LOL.

Most things, if not all have been done.
The best thing I think would be to make people relate to the characters make them the average family man/woman who's hard working and want's what is best for the family.

Then focus more on the decisions they would have to make to keep their family safe, what if someone had a bite, would you kill your partner to save your kids? or one of your children to save your family?
when the food is running out and its not yet safe to leave your home would you be able to kill and eat the family cat or dog.

As for zombie development you could please both sets of fans the people who like the "super" zombie and the people who like the "classic" zombie.
When you first die rigor mortis has not yet had time to set in so the "fresh" zombies would be fast and fairly agile but as the hours/days past they would get slower, you could say that the virus slow's the time it take for rigor mortis sets in but it must set in the dead won't stay fresh.

I'll get back to you with more ideas soon, as the hours getting late and I've had a few beers.

Regard,
jim.

I rather like the idea. A mix of the two would be great.

It could be even cooler if the man/woman was not home when the zombie apoc. went off. Like if the guy was doing his job at a radio station when the zombie apoc. breaks out then he has to figure out what is going on while telling his listeners his finds. Then his friend and co-worker volunteers to ride his motorcycle to the main characters house to see if his family is ok. FUCK ALREADY BEEN DONE! (rep if you can name it)

The Undefeated 13th (SW) - W 3, L 0, D 2

The Swarm (Nids) - W 33, L 14, D 0

Da Waugh Squad (Orks) - W 5, L 9, D 2

The Gunline/Gundam Wing (Tau) - Under Construction

Sounds like.

Dead air, 2008, directed by Corbin Bernsen.
very similar to
Pontypool, 2008, directed by Bruce McDonald.

Can't believe I missed this!
A friend and me came up with the idea a while back about who would actually survive a zombie apocalypse, the conclusion was 'ard bastards and nut cases, with neither being mutually exclusive.
The concept then grew from there, how would these psychos survive and why?
1, they're mad, they would be happy to kill anything, infected or not
2, they would give the insane plans a go
3, they've probably been expecting it for a while, they've read the Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z.

So, instead of them running around with guns, which is a bad plan, they would know that claw hammers, trench picks and machettes would be the way to go (thus bringing the budget down, no big booms and no fake guns or blanks)
And it would leave a nice question in the narrative, who is the greater threat to society, the zombies or the lunatics that are likely to survive?

no to mention claw hammers wouldn't make the noise a gun does
