Besides those already mentioned, Gettysburg and The Great Escape spring to mind immediately...though The Great Escape perhaps isn't quite a 'war movie'.

Similarly, I'd actually classify Inglourious Basterds as a spaghetti western rather than a war movie, but there you are.

Hurt Locker. The best ever war movie. Ever.

Oh and Starship Troopers.

But no seriously, Hurt Locker, Black Hawk Down, Tears of the Sun, Schindlers List, In-In-In-Inglorious, and Platoon.

A western? Seriously? Your kidding around right? Come on, were is the punch line to that joke?

Where was Clint Eastwood or cowboys or horses or Indians or Texas/New Mexico/Mexico/Arizona/California/or six shooters and Henry rifles or saloons or whore houses or just "The West" in general?

So not a western movie, let alone a "spaghetti Western" (which really means it was a western US type cowboy movie filmed in Italy, hence the "spaghetti" in spaghetti western.)

It was set during WWII with "special forces" against the Nazi's. How can you get more "war movie" than "killin' nat-zees?" (...and business is a booming!)

Kelly's Hero's, I don't know why, I grow up with it, and still love it now, it gets thrown on every few months just to remind how great it is!

The stylistic similarities abound between Inglourious Basterds and that entire genre abound. You have to look beyond the time and place. Most of Tarentino's movies are like that.

Braveheart goes on my list.
We Were Soldiers was good as well.
Tropic Thunder (not really just couldn't resist)
Full Metal Jacket (R. Lee Ermey is the man)
Glory
and most of the rest of Unforgiven's list as well.
