I'm far more of a fan of Asian (Specifically Chinese) Films, from the ''Marshal-Art'' genre, which at times can be induced into the War-movie category. I'd say things like Hero and Warlords, both of which are Jet Li I do believe, and Mongol. All very telling of those more... vague and lesser-known periods of history

Lord of the Rings being one of my favorite films I'm actually waiting for the Hobbit to come out. That possibly has more potential than Lord of the Rings. Unlike the adventure of the love birds of Frodo and Sam, at least you have a legitimate squad of warriors that follow and don't abandon Bilbo.

Kelly's Heroes. Nothing comes close to it. Humour, action, all star cast. It's got it all. Oddball is one of the funniest characters ever. "The only way I got of distracting them is to let them shoot holes in me!"

Downfall is definitely the top favourite. Closely followed by Dr. Strangelove, although it's a comedy so probably doesn't count, lol. Still amazing. Schindler's List is a favourite too, although I don't consider it a war film because it doesn't focus on the actual war itself.
I also enjoyed Mongol, Enigma, and Guadalcanal Diary just because it was actually made during WWII which is interesting to me. There are probably more, I just can't remember them because I watched them all quite a few years ago.

I always liked the three films Zulu, 300 Spartans (the 60's version, not the cgi crapfest from a few years ago) and Tora, Tora, Tora. Doubt I could put them in order though, I think they are all ready good films.

Bays Pearl Harbour......................NO NO NO, I'm kidding of course...its shit, like everything else he does.

best is a bridge too far easily, you can NEVER remake that movie ever again, there is no way on earth you could get the talent today that was in that movie, no decent actors like that exist anymore
