when we were soldiers and saving private ryan, great movies, and timeless classics in my opinion.

Kudos for the thread, +rep!

I wouldn't call them timeless classics quite yet. Both owe a hell of a lot to the true classics that came before them.

Tropic Thunder the most expensive war movie ever made. Jesus i loved Downey in that movie. that was a great set of characters and it was by far the best movie Stiller has ever made.

Eh, if I had to pick my favorite it'd be Platoon, but I also like Braveheart, The Patriot, Black Hawk Down, Glory (so strange seeing Matthew Broderick in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and then a serious, well-crafted movie about the Civil War), 300 (even though I'd have preferred them in actual hoplite armor... not loincloths...), Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, and some that were before my time like Patton and Tora! Tora! Tora!.

Just added Centurion to my list. Great movie. I'm quite disappointed that the movie theaters in the united states haven't really put it out. Quite embarasing really.
