Whenever I see Potter films I go with pretty low expectations because they are almost never quite as good as the books. But I must say, it really wasn't as average as I was expecting it to be. The only real problem I had with it was the fact that the ending wasn't as epic as I remember it from the book. You cant really judge movie adaptations of books TOO harshly because they usually don't have the time, length and depth that's available to their literature counterparts to portray the story.

I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy it, but I thought it could have been done better. I think it would have been easy enough for them to not include the parts that didn't happen in the book but instead actually include some of the more major parts of the book. Some conversations that are quite essential to the plot of book 7 just weren't there in the film, which is rather dissapointing but oh well.

The main issue I had with the film was due to the cinematography, I felt that a lot of the time the camera work wasn't the greatest and the scenes just didn't look as nice as in the others.
I also felt like the colour palette was awful, it all seemed like all the shots had been greyed out. I understand it's to represent the darkening times in the story's universe, but surely that could have been convayed in detailed, convincing character performance.
I definatley felt like a lot of the acting was very poor. It's almost as if almost every scene was done in one take and no-one had the balls to say "(Actor) I don't think that was as good as it could have been, let's try it again" Some scenes were well done and gave the desired effect such as humour, but others (Dumbledores scenes in particular) lacked the force that they gave in the book.

All being said however, I wouldn't say it is a bad film, I just think it could have been made a lot better with very little change.

This was my only problem with the movie as well. Why they didn't go closer to the book there is beyond me as it would have made an epic end to the movie.

Overall I thought it was an excellent movie. They hit all the major plot points of the book and managed to keep the pacing moving well. No movie will ever be as good as the book, it just isn't possible, especially one as large and detailed as HBP. Just look at the Lord of the Rings movies. Truly awesome movies without a doubt but there were MASSIVE changes in them, parts taken out, lines given to the wrong characters, things that weren't in the book, etc. It is all part of the adaptation process as what makes for a great book does not always make for good cinema.

Over all, I thought the Half Blood Prince was an excellent movie and I will see it again.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

I agree. This movie in my opinion was an execellent movie and did what it had to do. That is to bridge the gap between the events from the return of Voldermort and the teh events of the seventh book. I did however miss the big battle at the end though.

Blackadder: They do say, Mrs M, that verbal insults hurt more than physical pain. They are, of course, wrong, as you will soon discover when I stick this toasting fork into your head.

I thought the movie would completely fail as a stand alone as the half blood prince's identity was never investigated and the plot was difficult to follow. However as a movie made from a book, how much can one really expect, it would not have been nearly possible to fit a massive book like that into a movie. I'm sure that the producers would have liked to put in more but in that business the cuts are brutal and the editing is harsh.

I thought the movie's biggest error was in pacing. It dragged on in some spots, and sped past others. It felt very neurotically paced. Apart from that it was... alright. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a complete waste of time. It was entertaining at least. The other movies in the series (barring the last one which I thought just sucked) tend to be at least worth watching whether you like the books or not. They have a solid adventurous feel overall. They're by no means amazing though.

can't say it was awful but i went with some people that hadn't read the books and they really didn't like it i really think you had to have read the book to have a clue what was going on

Here my advice: dont see transformers 2 in stead. Its what I did

I'm done with HP, the last two books were shit (while the fifth and fourth trailed into them as far as quality) and the best of the movies was a waste of time. The sierise has hardcore Star Trek syndrome: colapse under its own continued failed atempts to outdo its own previous awsomeness. (I cite voyager. No.) Not only that, but the editors got afraid of Rowling, letting stupid errors (spelling errors even) into the final work. Totaly ruining the already trailing books. You cant make a 500+ page book into a 2.5 hour movie. the maths just dont work.

500/2.5=200. 200 pages per hour. Thats more than three pages of material per muinet. It doesnt work.
