Default Rev reviews "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"

I'm going to start out by saying I'm not going to bother spoiler tagging anything I'm saying. I'm going to nitpick a great deal here and that's just going to get in the way and ultimately make this entire post look like a box of gray nothing. Seriously, would you honestly come to this thread not expecting to have certain things ruined if you haven't already scene the movie? What were you thinking hmm? OK, at this point, I have typed enough to convince you to leave or to abolish all hope that you could possibly blame me for spoiling anything for you when you knew better from the begining. So let's start then eh?

Number 1. It was too complicated for it's own good. I'm not even talking about intricate, I'm saying they tried to come up with something excessivley elaborate and fell pretty short of the mark. More questions came up then were answered and things just felt strung together on a whim. Examples will follow...

Number 2. How is it that the entire graff of adamantium to his bones didn't affect his mental state one ioda, but two shots to the skull at the end somehow magically wipe out his memories? And how did Striker even know that's what would have happened? Given his desire to do that in the first place, was he really intended on shooting him in the head while he was still in the tub?

Number 3. There's a scene where Logan smells a dead carcass not to far from his location, so he immediately knows something isn't right, and tracks down his beloved again with his crazy nose. So he can aparently sniff the dead from a quarter mile away, but he can't determine whether or not the woman he's been with for the past 6yrs is really dead.

Number 4. Why did the guy who could control electricity get waxed? There was no explanation or tie in with anything further in the movie beyond a convinient set up to talk to Logan. They couldn't come up with anything better than that? It was a 'kick the dog' tactic, and one that failed miserably with the true intentions of Victor.

Number 5. I refuse to believe that a high ranking general would willingly travel in an undisclosed local to inform a mentally unstable person that he's finished without an armed escort or at least a side arm of his own. You know this cause a looney, yet you find it ok to meet him in a lab alone where he has access to all kinds of disembouling tools?

Number 6. So... did Gambit just slowly lose his accent through the movie or was it just me? And when in the hell was he able to leap tall biuldings in a single bound? No mention of how he escaped either eh? Well, it's not like he was a well rounded character anyway, you just had to throw him in there because he was left out of the original X-men trilogy.

Number 7. As far as little tidbits at the end of the movies that are suppose to reveal something crutial or prelude to something grand in the future... that was f**king pointless. There was no god damned reason to put that in there and they should be ashamed of themselves. (I've heard rumours of a much better one involving Dead Pool, but I certainly didn't see it)

Number 8. What's the deal with decapitation? Was that really suppose to kill them? How did they figure that out? They seemed to be able to get a great deal of information without actually doing squat.

I'm sure if I watched it again I could pick out another dozen or so reasons this movie could have been better. Yes it was still mindlessly entertaining, but only because I had to shut off my brain to be entertaining. It was flashy, action packed and a summer movie, but really lacked a great deal of profound substance. Catch it, but try for a matinee.

I'll give it 2.5 out of 5 stars. I'd say 3, but the more I dwell on it the more irritating it gets.

Pondering...

i'd give it 5, because gambit = pure win > wolverine.

there was supposedly up to like 4 different after credit endings that were different per theater.

Well i loved it and decapitation pretty much kills anything so i think its safe to say a comic book character wouldn't need to think too hard to work it out.

An easy 4 star out of 5 movie, very entertaining, loved the plot, loved the characters, loved the patric stewart cameo at the end. have to admit i didn't buy the gun shot amnesia but its as good as any reason to loose your memory i suppose.

Role on part 2

They set him up to become the proper Deadpool.

BIG EFFING THING INVOLVING SPOILERS. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. ACTUALLY, JUST READING THIS MAY DESTROY YOUR SOUL. DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU.

Also, Gambit was in this, so it's not all bad.

EDIT: I'm writing all this as it comes to me and I've been up for close to 24 hours, so it may not entirely make sense.

I liked it enough to give it a 4 out of 5. I love my comics but at the same time I am not opposed to them altering things to make it more movie centered.

And the ending I saw was the mp's catching up to Stryker on the road to take him in for questioning regarding the death of the general.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

There's the typical Marvel 'After ALL the credits' one too. Not just the cut-away bit.

I would give it a 3 out of 5. While it was an OK movie they ruined Deadpool, and to be honest I have never been a huge fan of Sabertooth, and to top it all off Striker was awesome in X2 but I feel he has a bit weak in Origins.

i went into the movie with the intent of just ignoring what i know about the comics and to just enjoy the movie for what it was. I was entertained and happy about it. sure i could think about it and poke all sorts of holes in the plot, but why bother really? i liked the action, thought they did Gambit pretty darn well and now i'm just gonna look forward to the Deadpool spinoff movie that has already been greenlit.
