What really pissed me of was how the samurai didn't carry a traditional Yari since it was by far more common kit then the club or naginata (Unless the Samurai was hiding a pair of breasts in that armor). After all in times of war the Yari and bow where the staple of samurai gear.

But take that out and they did carry the staff thing, a bow and two swords into battle. It was the closest one so far, as to what would actually be carried on a single person into battle.
Apache was pretty accurate, and the Viking wasn't far off either. they did often carry multiple spears and axes, even with a shield. Though swords were not as common amongst the rank and file because they were expensive to make.

And yeah, the Yari should have made an appearance, and the lance would have been more appropriate than the Halberd

It seems like they try really hard to fix the tests so that the weapons always turn out two-two on who has the edge. When they judged the swords as even in knight vs pirate they had to throw in an extra test with the boaridng ace vs armor just so they'd have two to two. Sometimes shields count as a qweapon and sometimes they don't too.

I really love that word Yari although it doesn't sound vary intimidating.

Hey the Spetnaz are our comrades now, buddy. It's the Chinese we hate nowadays!

After doing so research into the show, I discovered that it was awesomely hilarious. The fact that this show takes itself seriously was icing on the cake! The trashtalking is pretty funny, too. All of the pseudo-science was eclipsed by the fact that the matchups were total horseshit.

Apache vs. Gladiator?!? Granted, that would be totally awesome to watch, but awesome in the same way that watching someone get kicked in the balls is awesome.

Viking vs. Samurai?! We're talking about two people separated by a couple thousand years; this person wasn't even thinking when they popped this one out.

Spartan vs. Ninja. Anyone who has seen 300 (read: anyone with a penis) has seen this fight.

Pirate vs. Knight??!?!?! REALLY?!?

Yakuza vs. Mafia? Come on.

I'm going to stop there. The only episode I watched in it's entirety was the Apache/Gladiator one, and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the episodes.

I actually rather like the show...I mean, ancient weapons taking ballistic-gel dummies apart? Hell yes!

You simply have to acknowledge that the simulation they run has limitations. Not everyone will be pleased with every episode.

As to their choice of weapons...they actually test many more weapons than they show during the forty-odd minutes of programming allotted. Take a look at Spike's website, specifically the Deadliest Warrior homepage, and look up 'The Aftermath.' They've had a sit-down after the Spartan and Knight shows to address fan concerns, several of which I've seen in this thread.

Personally, I think it's funny that so many people criticize the show for not being 'scientific.' It's all about entertainment value. This show isn't really any less scientific than Mythbusters when you come down to it...and to be honest, I've got absolutely no problem with that.

Ok, I am going to have to check this show out, just to see what all the discussion is about.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

I'd argue that mythbusters is a fair bit more scientific than this show. Not to say the Mythbusters are all about science, but when they test something they always strive to have identical controls and the like.

They don't test one object on a dummy and another on a bone between blocks, or a pig when trying to compare them, for example. If you're testing two weapons in the same category to see how effective they are compared to one another, you have to test them on the same thing.

What most people don't seem to understand about this show is they simply don't have enough time per episode to show you all the testing they do.

So yes, in the final cut, it would appear they test different weapons differently. But I have a sneaking suspicion that they run multiple tests on each weapon, and show the tests that look coolest. I mean, the whole point is to entertain, yes? So why wouldn't you show the most impressive tests?

I just watched the Mafia vs. Yakuza episode, and I have to say, the comments left online amused me. People talk about the superior martial arts training of the Yakuza swinging the battle...did they even look at the data presented? The Thompson submachine gun accounted for nearly half the available kills...on its own. Overwhelming firepower carried the day. Martial arts training....would be like bringing your fists to a gun fight.

Oh, and as far as the Mythbusters...their method is stellar, that's not debatable. The only problem with that show is a lack of repetition, something the hosts themselves have addressed on multiple occasions. They've flat out said the show is about entertainment value more than anything else. I guess what I'm saying is, don't make this type of program out to be something it isn't.
