Default New star trek movie

Apparently its great.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7989146.stm

Mr Nimoy announced they wouldn't be watching Wrath of Khan but the new movie instead. Everyone loved it by all accounts. Bodes well as I thought it was going to be a bit dodgey going back to ST:TOS

i don't get why they are building the Enterprise on the planet surface, but everything else about that film looks amazing. i love the idea of returning to a now seemingly archaic view of the future and trying to make it work with the science technology we understand today. it causes the film maker to really have to grapple with the simplicity of early exploration.

My friend's theory is that this has something to do with an altered time-line. That's why the 1701 is built planet-side, and why Pike's ship seems to be destroyed (at least it looks that way in the trailer). There was a whole bunch of other examples, but I never got FULLY into researching Star Trek canon history, so I shut the rest of the conversation out a bit.

I'm personally just curious to see what exactly Abrams is doing with ST. He's always (strike that, almost always... I do remember Cloverfield) had good ideas on how to make amazing end products. From what people are apparently saying about the movie, I'm VERY excited to go see it. Especially if its the hardcore ST:TOS fans that are raving.

Anyone whos goes to the cinema to see a film that has been out for decades (Star Trek II) I would class as a hardcore fan. It has increased my interest by about 100% though.

The release date is 8th May, not too far away...

That is the main thing that struck me over this story, those would have been hardcore trekkies and if they loved it, it really bodes well. Hell from the trailer I've seen a while back I was already planning to watch it, but now I'm really looking forward to it. Its up there with Transformers 2 and Harry Potter for me this year.

This year has a few brilliant films coming out this year, and a few terrible ones. But I would place Trek somewhere in the middle with T2 as good films. The best bit is that Sylar is on it.

Yeah I am really looking forward to this movie and this news bit only makes me want to see it even more. The fact that it impressed the hell out of the die hard Trekkers says something.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

Yea, they are notoriously hard to please. I think it might be a good year for Sci-Fi.

I mean the new Terminator movie is out at the beginning of June and I've good hopes about that. Personally I didn't think T3 was as bad as people thought. Then theres that Wolverine which is suppose to be ok to.

Yeah, it's Kirk's father's ship that is destroyed.

Haven't been too impressed by anything that JJ has made (Lost lost me at go, and Heroes just didn't grab me, Alias was pretty meh also. Cloverfield was just a 'take the camera off the epileptic, please' moment).

Then again, I've only really liked DS9 (post Roddenberry's death) - but there were TWO episodes of enterprise I liked.

Hey! Where'd ... Everybody ... go?
