Default Zombie Movies

Having watched the 90's rendition of Night of the Living Dead for the first time in 7 years, I viewed it with a different eye than I used to. Back in ye olde tymes, I thought that movie was the absolute shit! Nowadays, however, my reaction could be accurately described as meh. Was it bad? Not in my opinion. Was it good? Meh. This is, of course, all IMHO.

I was wondering what everyone else's thoughts on such movies were. As most of you may or may not know, there are two popular schools of "zombie;" the Romero and Russo schools. IMO, Russo is the lesser of the two, but w/e.

Anyway, cast your vote!

I've always subscribed to the "Zombies don't run" school of zombieness, although I've found that movies that have running zombies aren't terrible.

I know I'm an odd one, but I've always thought that zombies are actually a distinct possibility as far as messed up things that could happen go. Work with me here. Let's say the initial condition is caused by a parasite which eats its host from within, but is able to maintain muscular control after the host dies. Say the parasite wants a new host, or just wants to eat more people via its current host-- wouldn't that still be a zombie for all intents and purposes, since it's the walking, angry, hungry dead?

Generally speaking I can't stand zombie movies... they bore me to death! That said however I do like the Resident Evil movies.

Being a mythology nut I especially tend to roll my eyes at so called zombies who are just infected with a disease rather than dead... I may not like most of the movies but I give credit to the ones that actually have dead zombies!!! I do have a keen interest in animatronics and effects make-up so I do watch some movies on occasion (always only if Druchii has them on already though) just to see if the effects are good. If they are awful I am afraid to admit I grumble a lot.... but I do wait until its over!

I like Zombie films and I agree with LVix - they have to be dead, not disease ridden. Don't mind if they're fast or slow either, although I find the slow types more menacing as they seem more dead, and even though they're really slow they'll get you in the end.

Zombie movies are the only ones that truly creep me out, be they slow shamblers or running killers. Dunno why and it doesn't stop me from watching them but I always feel a bit creeped out afterwards.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

I feel the same way Wraithlord. When I got the game Dead Rising, I beat it in one day...but my nerves were shot for a week lol. That feeling didn't set in until after I was done, which is the same thing that happens with the movies; I won't be truly creeped out until after the movie.

My solution? Watch another zombie flick!

I love the old Romero films. Didnt think much to the Land of the Dead film.
It realy bugs me to watch the remake of Dawn of the Dead too, with the Linford Christie-Zombies. One word. Rigamortis.
I think the Coloured in original Night of the Dead is a Classic.

The zombies heard that James Blunt had died. That made them run.

Me, I love sprinters. 28 days later = Yeslad.

I never understood how in shamblers that you had young jocks and football players with their girls... Surely they're big enough to a) carry them, and b) run. But no, they always get beaten and caught by the shamblers, despite Grandad with his walking stick beating them to shelter.

Zombie movies, meh. Zombie video games like Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead, amazingly fun. Dead rising is from the shambling zombie school, but is rather hilarious. Left 4 Dead is a good FPS that really shines when you get at least four friends together and split between the survivors and infected. There's not many more satisfying moments in recent video games than working with a friend to kill all four survivors.

That which doesn't kill me has made a tactical mistake.

I love the City of Rott reference.

I love the entire genre, there are some stinkers in the mix, but on the whole, it is less about the way the zombies hunt their prey but what they represent. The movie and story shouldn't focus on the zombies and the gore, but the survivors and what they do to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Shambling zombies represent a slow and inevitable doom with a small glimmer of hope while fast zombies are more about the aggressive and enthusiastic doom that is hopeless to stand against.

Dead, diseased, or otherwise, it doesn't really matter to me. Just tell me a good story about it.
