Default True Detective (No spoilers in OP)

Just finished watching the first (and only) season. All I have to say is, I haven't seen a piece of cinema, let alone a TV show that has left such a mesmerizing impact on me, in a very long time.

I highly recommend it to anyone who has not seen it yet. It follows two detectives tracking a serial killer in rural southern Louisiana. To our UK friends, Southern Louisiana is a very interesting, and culturally unique place. What makes the show more than just some crime drama is that it takes place over seventeen years, opening with the two detectives separately interviewed circa 2012, about the initial case, which occurred in 1995.

Season 1 is 8 episodes, 55 minutes each, starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey(an actor who I had little to no respect or interest in prior to seeing this, and holy shit does he play Rust Cohle pretty damn perfectly).

I should also note, it's the most fucking disturbing show I have ever seen.

Fantastic series. Watched it twice and am wondering how they are going to pull of next season.

Season 2 will have nothing to do with season 1. As far as I've heard it's set in California, with a whole new cast of characters.

Yeah I was under the impression that it would be an Anthology series similar to American Horror Story, the only difference is that it's a completely new cast with each series unlike Horror Story. So season 2 is presumably different location, case etc.

I had heard rumors somewhere that the members of the original cast may make an occasional appearence but nothing had been confirmed or denied yet....

I'm curious how the second season will stack up to the first. The writing and story were incredible to me, but Woody and Matthew really made it an amazing show. If they can top that, I'll be blown away.
