Default Star Wars Episode VII Trailer.

I may have made a very unmanly "Squeee!" when I saw this.

I am not ashamed.

Can someone tell me what use that crossguard is on a lightsabre? Surely if it's going to protect against another lightsabre, then it's just going to get sliced off as soon the sabre touches it...

Bah.

After the totally garbage prequal movies, I am rather disenfranchised with star wars, the trailer does nothing to stir my blood but most likely I'll give in to hope and go see it. However the light sabre cross guard is ridiculous and can only serve as a quicker way to cut your hand off before someone else with a light sabre does it for you, and if jar jar fucking binks shows up I may have to kill someone

I heard he's gonna be in there, but dont quote me on it.

the sad thing is, if the crossguard came directly from the sides of the top, instead of seperate tubes, it would actualy make sense to have them.

It depends, there's a metal (cortosis) that's used to create Vibroblades which Lightsabers can't cut in half, perhaps his saber is made with that metal.

Maybe it's there because it looks cool?

Also Keep in mind that JJ abrams isn't a rabid star wars fanboy, so the focus could making a good movie instead of some stupid message about how useless we are as humans.

What I was going to say. There are Saber proof materials in the Star wars Universe. Whether or not they are retconned is hard to say.

Screams more plot point to me. He'll kill someone with the crossguard, and then during the final battle will have them cut off. A la Darth Maul.
