Default Ender's game movie vs book. Spoilers.

So I finally got around to watching the enders game movie, I've heard allot of people say it sucked before watching it so I chose to ignore them and I watched it anyways.

I really don't mind the changes made in the movie from the book.

For example having ender played as older than he was in the book makes sense, after all kids capable of acting like ender are rare. Besides IMO ender acts older than he was in the books.

I like that they didn't focus on the peter business too much. When the book was written the internet didn't exist so what he did makes sense from the books viewpoint.

As we know it doesn't work like that so not having it in makes sense. However they focused on him and valentine enough to show their differences, she cares and he's ruthless.

The giant game part was interesting while it took a few minutes I'm starting to wonder if those minutes were really hours. We didn't need to see him fail hundreds of times, three attempts was all that was needed.

The entire battle school condensing was a good choice, they covered the important points and didn't go into the detail a book needs.

Overall I liked it.

The movie was meant to appeal to a larger crowd that much is obvious, it portrayed the book good and didn't deviate far from it.

Thoughts?

I haven't watched it yet, haven't had time. Though I read the book I find people continuously take these things FAR too seriously. A lot of the time these movies are made from those that enjoyed the books and want to visually see it instead of imagine it, so they put it on the big screen for the world and themselves to enjoy. I also believe it is a way of putting it out there for those who can't or choose not to read to enjoy it.

But at the end of the day, remember, haters always gonna hate ;) lol

^ This. We also have to remember that the movie and book are written by different people with different visions with different purposes. Even readers see things differently on the same book.

There were some things that really bugged me about the movie (no one checked that ruin for buggers? Also the whole "after destruction" scene was pretty weird. And what happened to Shen? Where'd he go? Also that fight scene was not nearly as brutal as it should have been, although I can understand why they toned it down. Finally, where did the whole Valentine/Peter subplot go? That was awesome! There's more but it's been a while), but overall it was fairly decent. I am against it because I wanted the book in movie form (and it wasn't that by any means), but on it's own it was decent if not good.

Wood Elves (Plog)
Win Ratio: 6-3-1 (new book)

The valentine peter subplot was awesome I think that was a case of technology marchs on.

Could you see anyone uniting the world through internet forums? It's cool for the book but it's not believable.

Well that's a rather simplistic way of looking at it. What they did, rather than "unite the world through forums," was to establish their credibility via essays and yes, forums, and then gradually gain more influence and authority until they could influence people in a very real way. They in no way united the world, however (look at all the Bean books for the war that eventually did).

Either way it's believable before the internet existed, now anyone who would want to do what they did would have to get through the cats.

I haven't watched it yet, but the fact that they gave away the spoiler in the trailer put me off going to see it in the cinema. Then again, having read the book I suppose it's not a spoiler for me.

The book came out in 1985 it's safe to say that anyone who hasn't read it probably doesn't want to.

Besides the spoiler is apparent within the first 20 mins of the movie.

I wouldn't say that's a good assumption Reaper. Though now there is a film a lot less people will read it.

I was borne 87 and read it in 2006 in Basic!

(Also, yeah I was a bit pissed the big twist was not very twisty in the movie)
