Default 300: Rise of an Empire Trailer 1

March 2014 kiddies:

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted before. Be interested to see how this turns out. Eva Green... fucking hell she is stunning. Not a huge fan of the blue cloaks, tonewise they are all wrong, far too bright IMHO, that jump the hoplite does off the cliff is also wrong on so many levels and that horse... yeah it's a little OTT BUT fuck me there is going to be some epically cool fights in it!

So that's what Damian Scott was busy doing during the unknown years before he joined Section 20...

Seriously though, that looks pretty epic. I will definitely be watching this, hopefully in 3D. Have limbs and blood seemingly flying in my direction.

The human appendix. Proof of a higher power. A divine kill switch so to speak.

Fuck no. The movie 300 was the closest thing to the greek epic being put into a movie. It told the story of how few could change history.

But this...

This.

This is like a father prostituting his own daughter. Just so he can buy a sports car.

That isn't the story of 300, that's sword porn. Remove the 300 from the title it's disgracing the movie.

I'm not saying 300 was on the same level as bruce lee's film's but it was a good movie. Barring what they changed to make the spartans more heroic. Butler did a great job and I felt he played Leonidas perfectly I also though the death of that guys son was more tragic than the ending of the movie.

But that's gone. Instead of a master piece it's now part of a damn film franchise.

The name 300 has no meaning now. It's been whored out to a 50 year out fat guy.

Err what?

Ignoring the cinematographic merits of the film (of which there are precious few, it's really not as good or significant as you're making it out to be), how is is the story of a few changing history?

Inspirational the Battle of Therymopolae may have been, it had very, very little strategic consequence. It wasn't a Greek victory in any sense. The delay and damage to the Persian army was negligible. If forced the Greek fleet to withdraw to Salamis and surrender Attica and Boeotia to the Persians.

If anyone defeated the Persians it was the Athenians, who came orchestrated the Greek strategy, made up the bulk of the alien fleet and arguably sacrificed the most out of any of the Greek states.

300 and Thermopylae really wasn't the case of the few changing history.

300 was sword porn and so's this sequel. I assume the 'rise of an empire' bit refers to the Athenians. Which also perhaps explains the change of cloak colours. Still doesn't explain their lack of clothes though.

Personally i reckon it looks like it's going to be worse than the first, looks very bloated and overwrought.

Looks fun. I'll definitely watch it.

From what I recall of the original comic -- and I don't think 300 illustrated this point well enough -- the premise incorporated a ton of fantasy, supernatural and otherwise extremely out-of-time-period elements because it was the recollection of one soldier's experiences. In a way it reflects Greek storytelling which regularly exaggerated events to include a plethora of beasts and Gods striding beside mortals.

So, really, the crazy shit is justified.

Have you ever read the story of 300? Instead of going by the hollywood version?

Before this movie did you even know that there was 1100 other soldiers there? You know why you didn't? Because it's the story of 300 who stood against millions. For every second they delayed xerxes history changed. It's as simple as that.

Wow... good job of making assumptions about other people's historical knowledge...

I dunno why people get so upset about this in anyways. The film was based off a comic book representation, it wasn't meant to an accurate historical portrayal. It was made purely for entertainment purposes and to make money. I know the actual history of the Battle of Thermopylae. If I wanna know more I will read books/historical articles etc. about it or watch documentaries. I watch the movies for the over-the-top fight scenes and limbs flying in all directions. Not to be educated. It's like many 40k novels... if the Spartans had bolters it would have been bolter porn.

Exactly and the sequel will be the same, just like Spartacus. That's the reason why I will watch it.
