Wasn't really rehashing the old movie, the old movie was set a lot later on after Kirk had already dealt with Khan, this was that "dealing with" that made Khan hate Kirk so much.

Ok it wasnt a rehash in terms of trying to remake the same film, but what they did was take their ideas from that film. Replace the genisis torpedo with cryo tubes inside torpedoes and have a Dr Marcus interested in them. Swapping the roles of Kirk and Spock at the end. The Khan scream. The needs of the many line, and so on and so on. They could have done something origional but instead they just twisted what had already been done.

Many of these things were great the first time round, they are just cheesey the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time round. I would have thought directors would have learnt that from the over use of classic lines in the new star wars films.

Great movie, made it to the premiere despite some really nasty Dallas spring weather. I successfully avoided major spoilers but I did know before going in that John Harrison was an alias, suspected Khan. Wanted it to be Garth Of Izar but that's an old topic by now This was a good revision of the classic Khan story. Visually the movie was stunning. I will see it again.

I found the movie a thoroughly good romp into the "new" ST universe. The Dreadnought-class being a genuine moment.....

Khan, heh, ace to see him make an appearance. As for the Kirk/Spock role reversal parts, I personally found them to be a great nod to the originals.

I couldn't really make out the dreadnought class, it was so dark.

Does this film actually contain any elements of what makes Star Trek so good?

I.e. the betterment of humanity, the hope in a brighter - more enlightened future, a moral story about free will, ethics, and addressing character flaws to develop into a fuller and wiser person.

Any of that at all? Or does shit just get blown up in space?

90% of people think they are above average.

Statistically Improbable. Psychologically Inevitable.

So it's not the same dreadnought class with the third nacelle and the uber laser array that was seen in the next generation alternate reality, albeit that to was built for war as it was adapted from a Galaxy class.

Yeah it's the quintessential battle between the hope for a better humanity and the right path to it. It's kind of like Star Trek Insurrection.

Nope, as this is a timeline that has been altered way before
