Default Cruise as Jack Reacher?

Just saw the first trailer for Jack Reacher, starring Tom Cruise, and I have to say it has only reinforced my initial doubts of casting a dwarf in the role of a 6'5" 250 lb monster. As a big fan of Lee Child's novels featuring Reacher, the scene in the trailer where he gets out of a car and just fades into the crowd while being pursued by the cops is exactly what couldn't happen in the novels because of his size, and has turned me right off.

While this may turn out to be an excellent film in it's own right, for me it will always be tainted by such a huge miscast. I know there are plenty more fans of the novels on here, so am I the only Reacher fan who feels this way?

Nope, me and my Dad are both huge fans of Lee Child's books and this was pretty much the first thing we both said. Tom Cruise does not suit playing Jack Reacher in my opinion, it just doesn't match up to the description from the books

I've only read one of the books, so I don't have that good a feel for the character. Does anyone think Cruise will be able to represent Reacher emotionally, if not physically?

I've read The Affair, The Killing Floor and Die Trying and can safely say that Cruise will not play Reacher. If they'd have just labelled it another Tom Cruise movie and changed the character's name then I think more people would be interested in it, but... Cruise as Reacher? I'll give this a chance, but not in the Cinema. Probably wait until it comes down on DVD to like 5 before getting it.

Easily. Reacher is a very black and white character. Right is right and wrong can't be allowed to continue. He doesn't really express a lot of emotion in the books, so Cruise should find it well within his limited acting range.
