Everyone has to remember that it won't be 'Disney' making the new film, it will be Lucas film, in the same way that Disney didn't make the latest avengers film, mar el did.

Disney seem to be acting as facilitators as apposed to actual film makers, with very few films actually made by Disney studios. For example pirates and national treasure were made by jerry brucheiner studios, most of its animated films are made by pixar.

What I think people have missed is it actually reunites Pixar and ilm which were both originally part of Lucas film...

To prevent any 'misunderstandings' if I post IN ORANGE then I am joking.
Thank you

not sure that disney get ILM as its a subsidiary, not sure if the other Lucas owned stuff passed along with it, like Lucas arts etc

but you are correct, I think Disney are in it for the brand value and the merchandise rights, leave the film makers to make the movies the fans want to see and rake in the cash to the McScrooge money bin on the aftersales.

Both disney and lucas have beem masters of the merchandising for years, i think even disney could learn a few things from the guys a lucasfilm when it comes to getting your shit on to other peoples shit to sell it to nerds.

Plus i might start seeing star wars stuff in the disney store that i get dragged into every other week by my dear little 2 year old Disney addict

This article states that Disney's getting the whole shibang: LucasArts, Skywalker Sound, ILM, etc. They're allegedly trying to keep them headquartered in California though to avoid screwing a ton of people out of their jobs.

While the bad possibilities are tremendous (remake is the first that comes to mind), the positive ones far outweigh them. Think of Marvel. Disney bought them back in 2009, and since that time they've come out with Iron Man II, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, X-Men Origins, and X-Men First Class. I haven't heard too many complaints about the quality of those movies. They may not be legendary "films," but they're sure as hell fun to watch. With some of the "Disney" talent, like Jon Favreau or maybe Joss Whedon, I think a new Star Wars could be legendary, depending on which storyline they choose to follow that is. I know I'm kind of keeping my fingers crossed for the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, but taking established novels like that into movies is doubtful imo.

The possibility for side-project/smaller scale Star Wars movies is also awesome. Suffice it to say, as a fanboy through and through, I'm fucking pumped.

Now if only we could get the licence for the models moved from wizards to gw...

But yes, going into the Disney store will be less of a chore, but actually could get more expensive... Damn...

a remake is a must in my opinion, have you watched the originals lately? i watched a new hope at the weekend and i have to say its looking more and more dated and ropey, Now i love the movies (all 8) and everything star wars, but i would happily sit through a remake of the original three, they can remake them scene for scene ala footloose for all i care, but the dialogue and plot and acting needs some serious work, If you need any convincing go watch a new hope and look for the tears of grief streaking down Lukes face when he pops home to find the burnt skeletal remains of the two people who have loved, clothed and fed him for the past however many years? no fuck that hes like " well bugger this farming lark im off to get me some of that princess sister pussy"

Or the fact the technical data read out that R2 is carrying is fucking flawed , they ran out of budget so hes stuck with the early concept computer graphic with the deathstar focus dish on the death star equator , but as we k now the dish is on the northern hemisphere in the finished model.
This one gets me every time, they have swaped out entire actors and added walls and hundreds of other stuff in the revamps, but R2 still delivers the incorrect plans !!!
Dont get me wrong i love george Lucas, the man is a ledgend, but alot of what is great about star wars has been created by others, hes great a inspiring people and getting them to think about doing things differently and i cant fault what he has done for cinema, but fuck me im glad hes handing over the writing/directing to new blood.

Ummm...... 8? You are referring to at least two movies that I don't know about.

Total agreement here. I have said for years that Lucas needs to step out of the way and make room for a director who can actually direct well. I think that it is no coincidence that the best of the original trilogy was the second because Lucas didn't direct it. The idea of SW movies being made with top directors gives me the special tingle. Just think it of, Star Wars: Episode VII - Well Directed with James Cameron at the helm...

.....
.....

Goddamn it, just spooged on my monitor.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt to direct; possibilities of Leia, Luke and Han cameoing themselves as older characters. Hmm. TS3 was OK but I'd rather have seen Whedon get the job...ah well, it'll still be better than anything Lucas himself has excreted in the last forever. We might get decent dialogue for once in a SW film!

No. He had talent once. It is gone. It died on Pandora, or whatever the name of planet/moon from Avatar was.

Finished: Too Much Love Will Kill You (working title), an original fiction novel. Working on: Second draft of Too Much Love, and the first draft of A Winter's Tale (working title).

What, the films that's the most successful of all time almost grossing twice what the third placed film has (I say third place because second is also his...)
