IDK, I liked the first AVP, it had some good points and the plot wasn't to terrible, it was somewhat believable with its whole Chiriots of the Gods concept, but the sequal was absolutely dumb, not to mention the campy throwback to one liners in the original films was horrid, lets not get started on the plot holes either, ok Im gonna stop now.

Anyway Ridley has brought us hope though, Prometheus was damn good and can't wait to see it again...

I liked both movies, but I agree, as movies in general they weren't terribly good. They were watchable. Once. My biggest qualm about the first one is that there's not enough violence. Can't make a good A/P movie without tons of blood (except the first Alien)

Necrons W3 T0 L1

Death Korps W1 T0 L1

Dark Elves W0 T0 L0

I am sure I posted this before somewhere, but the trick is to think of Alien and Aliens as different movie types, that happen to be in the same universe. Alien is pinacle dark monster horror, whereas Aliens is pretty pinacle for gruelling action horror. Aliens is also a lot better in the directors cut - the longer length makes you feel the doom and dread of their situation more. The theatrical cut is too short so really misses this element, and key scenes like the tripod guns running out of ammo.

Or to put it simply

Anything after "Alien" is just pure heresy.

Did you not even like alien 3? That was my favourite of the rest - it got nearest to the spirit of alien than any of the other films. I just like the alien lurking in the dark, and then being really horrible to Brian Glover...In my head it's cos he was in 'Kes'...I hate that film...

Fair enough - I quite like aliens, alien 3, resurrection, avp + avp2 - but then I like films where I can just not bother thinking and watch the pretty pictures...

But predator + 2 = awesome...

Predators - still enjoyed but because there were more of the pretty pictures...

The CGI on the dog-alien reduced the impact a lot for me - I just wasn't scared. I also wish they'd filmed the William Gibson original Alien 3 script instead.

EDIT - also as I just saw this elsewhere, some more heresy!

I actually think alien is shit until you add an s on its name, then ignore 3, resurrection and both AvP, and Prometheus, which sounds boring to me.

I also think the predator movies were shit
