Default Favourite James Bond? (Actor & Film)

Hey everyone.

I've recently restarted watching the James Bond DVD's I own, and I was just wondering what your opinion is on the best James Bond actor and films?

Which actor do you think portrays Bond the best, and which film (or films if you really can't decide on one) do you find yourself rewatching over and over?

For me, the best actor is probably Sean Connery, with pierce Brosnan coming a very, very, very close second. I think most of Sean Connery's films are the best in the series, and he has enough charm, while still being 'rough around the edges' to portray a spie who get's the girls.

Pierce Brosnan would nearly be my favourite, but he never really had any good stories for his films. Goldeneye was by far his best (and its one of my fav Bonds) but the rest were only good in parts, and some were a bit silly. So that's what lets him down, I'd almost of loved to see him remake (I know, I know) some of the 'classic' Bonds like Goldfinger, Dr No etc.

As for my favourite Bond film, its a very close tie between GoldFinger and You Only Live Twice.

I think both these films are the best in the series, with great bad guys (Oddjob, Spectre, Goldfinger) whose plans actually sort of make sense in an over the top way, great gadgets (amazing car in Goldfinger and that little helicopter You Only Live Twice), great soundtracks, great individual fights and big battles as well and just everything about them is awesome IMO.

If I was forced to choose I think Goldfinger just narrowly wins out as the best Bond film. It really is timeless.

So what do you guys think, who is your favourite Bond, and what is your favourite Bond film or films?

Mine would have to be Connery and Gold finger too, nothing's ever come close!

The silver DB5 is legendary and I will own one one day, I even did a presentation about it for my GW management interview (unsuccessful, apparently they're not Bond fans).

A close second would be either From Russia With Love or (controversial) On Her Majesty's Secret Service, George Lazenby wasn't the best Bond but the film was brilliant.

Favorite Bond film is Casino Royale with Dan Craig. I know it's a newer film but it (and Quantum to an extent) always felt more "real" then the earlier Bond films.

After Craig I'd go with Connery, Brosnan, Moore. In that order.

I'm with norm and D-A-C, Connery/Goldfinger all the way.

Connery and Goldfinger take the cake but I have several other favorites. I love Brosnan as Bond, but the films have been bad. The storylines aren't as good as the earlier films, and they are just spectacles of special effects.

I like the new ones with Daniel Craig alot, but they are a different portrayal of Bond that I don't think is as true to the original stories by Flemming. He is more action oriented than I think Bond should be. He is a spy after all, not a special ops soldier. So where they are good I just don't think you can compare them to the older movies or their portrayal of Bond.

All that beind said for some reason, Roger Moore in Man with a Golden Gun will always rank up there for some reason for me.

For me it's a close call between Goldeneye, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Live and Let Die. Those are the 3 I remember most vividly although I generally think the Roger Moore films had too many cringe-worthy one-liners ;)

Best bond is a difficult one, either Brosnan or Connery.

I went and seen this with my dad when it first came out (way back when)...first time I ever went to anything and it was just him and me, so it was great

So Connery first, then Brosnam as far as the old style Bond character goes, but I like how Craig has brought the series screaming and kicking into the
21st Century.

Connery is far and away my favorite/the best bond. My favorite movie, though, sadly is Living Daylights. I thought Timothy Dalton got a bad shake as Bond, as his movies were mostly lacking.

Connery seems to be the man to beat lol, and Goldfinger isn't doing too bad either!!!

I think its funny how, when you look through the entire series, most the of Bond films are a bit sh*t, and compared to recent series like The Bourne Identity and others, it seems a bit dated as well.

Yet, when the newest Bond film gets announced, most guys get excited for some reason, strange, very strange lol.

I think its just the combination of gadgets, girls, guns (and puns), that is a winning formula, even if the stories themselves often fail to live up the hype.

I haven't seen all the Bond films but my favorite would have to be Casino Royale and Daniel Craig. In my opinion it was much closer to the original book which is important to me. I also liked that the gadets were toned down and that it was altogether a much more realistic movie.

Finished: Too Much Love Will Kill You (working title), an original fiction novel. Working on: Second draft of Too Much Love, and the first draft of A Winter's Tale (working title).
