Default Rebuilding my DVD collection, HELP!

So, after either losing, selling or giving away my DVD collection over the years I'm making inroads on rebuilding it but I need some help.

Don't worry, I'm not about to ask for any freebies!

I'm a big horror fan but I'm not keen on torture porn stuff like Saw or Hostel, I prefer a more psychological approach taken by films like The Shining or outright gorefests like dawn of the dead.

Action films have to be of a decent standard but still of the 'leave your brain at the door' variety.

Scifi, pretty much anything that isn't star trek and doesn't look like it was made for 50p. Think Blade Runner, Alien and maybe Dark City.

Other than that I'll watch most things that are good, no screaming preteens in huge robots blowing up Tokyo!

So, what are Heresy's recommendations, what are the films that must be in my collection or may change my opinion about certain genres? What are the films that will leave me thinking or leave me ?

Post up your thoughts and a brief explanation of why this film(s) is good.

Why DVD? Move over to Blu-Ray, we has cookies.

Movies that have to be in your collection,

*Star Wars, at least the original trilogy, but preferably all of them.

*Lord of the Rings (There is no reason not to)

*Predator, Predator 2 (Predators?), just for the shit of it.

And that is where my imagination stopped working.

1. JAWS- is a great suspense movie and an all time favorite of mine.

2. STAR WARS 1-6 plus CGI- Must Have!!!!

3. The Last Star Fighter- Because it made me play every video game in the arcade hoping for a similar event.

4. UNDERWORLD- excellent and Selene is HOT!!

5. UNCOMMEN VALOR--Because everyone should wear a grenade around their neck...lol

I've recently started buying only blu-ray, I personally think they look better quality, but some claim they don't so guess you would have to see for yourself off someone else.

Looking at my collection now i'll reel off a few.

Crime/Gangster:
Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Snatch
Road to Perdition
Public Enemies
Heat

Superhero films(theres so many now they pretty much deserve their own category):
Batman Begins + Dark Knight
Iron Man 1+2
Thor
Kick-Ass
X-men 2(perhaps 1 out of necessity, fuck 3 right off)
Hancock
Watchmen

Action/Action-Drama:
Crimson Tide
The Book of Eli
Taken
Sin City
The Matrix trilogy(even if the storyline gets a bit weaker, the visual is still quality).
The Kingdom
The Siege

Horror/Zombie Flicks:
Dawn of the Dead remake(I liked it!)
28 days later
Resident Evil series(3rd and 4th one are a bit shit, but i love zombie flicks)
Zombieland (comedy, but beyond awesome)
Jaws

War Films:
Saving Private Ryan
Blackhawk Down
We Were Soldiers
Band of Brothers(mini-series, but come on now)
Full Metal Jacket
Platoon

Sci-Fi:
Star Wars series
Alien Quadrilogy
Predator 1+2+3(Predators)
Starship Troopers (got to love it!)
Sunshine (god i love that film)
Star Trek(the new one only)
Serenity(though watch the tv series Firefly first)

To name but a few ^^

Watch this space for an attachment, notepad list of my entire DVD/Blu-Ray XBMC library

Have over 2,000 titles and I am like you norm, not a fan of torture porn but love any goofy horror, Sci-Fi channel stuff, zombie related, hell even Killer Bong! Cheesier the better.

Ahhh I knew there were some I forgot, Se7en, Fight Club and Enemy at the Gates specifically.

But Requiem for a Dream is the big one. Brilliantly tragic film.

Oh add Blood Diamond and Inception to the list aswell! And The Town for that matter.

because they cost 2-3x the price of DVD's while giving a practically exactly the same picture quality...how could you not want that?, paying that much more must truly improve the quality of a movies acting surely...........

sci-fi is easy, you only need Aliens and thats it really, star wars you can ignore since its turned to dog crap, star trek I don't understand why to avoid since only the newest movie is a pathetic excuse for a film and thats basically it.

war movies is longer
the longest day
sink the bismark
waterloo
zulu
Patton
a bridge too far
black hawk down
pacific battleship yamato
letters from iwo jima
gettysburg
gods and generals
downfall
loads more

action....to be honest all action movies seem to be pretty poor these days
