Default Heresy's Favourite War Films?

Hey guys.

I'm just wondering:

What are some of your favourite war films (any era) and why?

Some of mine are:

The Blue Max - This is my favourite war film of all time, set from the German perspective (in English) during WW1 it follows a fighter pilot attempting to get the highly coveted pour le merite.

Its got great action sequences and for people who like a story there is great tension made of the upper class nature of WW1 fighter pilots.

The Beast of War - A really under appreciated film set during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (in English) it follows a Soviet Tank crew that gets lost from its platoon and has to face off against the Mujahideen.

I'll add more later as the thread progresses, but those are two of my all time favourites.

So what are some of your favourite War films and why?

I'm not sure if this counts, but 300. The action scenes and special effects are amazing, plus "this is sparta"

for WW2 I'd have to say Saving Private Ryan, simply for the Omaha beach scene, and the sniper character.

The Black Typhoons | Dark Angels 3rd Company | Tharrus Draw's Warband | Dark Angels' Corner | Codices: Marvel Heroes and Marvel Villains

Saving Private Ryan
Lord of the Rings - has some excellent action sequences
BLack Hawk Down
Master and Commander
Captain America
Starship Troopers. The first one. Not that abomination that came after
Last of the Mohicans. One of my all time favorites. I would watch it almost every week after school let out, when I was younger.
There are several others that I have seen, but I can't remember the names of them.

And i'm going to add the Band of Brothers series.

My youtube channel. Feel free to stop by and have a look if you're interested. I do Airsoft, some warhammer related videos, and gaming videos.

R.I.P. Uncle Lee. You will be greatly missed by us all. We will see each other again some day.

Fulll Metal Jacket,

Hamburger Hill,

and a personal favourite, Heartbreak Ridge. Not too much actual combat in it, but some cracking lines :-

Highway: This is the AK-47 assault rifle, the preferred weapon of your enemy; and it makes a distinctive sound when fired at you, so remember it.

"I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing."

"But," says Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED."

"Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.
