And the fact that the modern day 4Rifles, which has the biggest chunk of 3RGJ, who then became 2RGJ, can trace their Regi history back to the 95th Rifles.

I don't think Where Eagles Dare or Battle of the Bulge were mentioned. They're the only one's I can add to the list.

Guys, guys, guys, please ... "You can't fight in here, this is the war room!!!"

Anyway, there have been some great ones listed so far, another favorite of mine is The Bridge Over the River Kwai. Not only is it Alec Guinness's best film (imo) but by the end of it I found myself siding with him ... I won't say any more for spoilers sake lol.

Three great films which nobody has mentioned yet are:

The Bridge at Remagan - Which is about the American's capturing the last remaining bridge along the Rhine and is based on a true story.

When Trumpets Fade - Set during the battle of the Hurtgen forest (which was one of the Allies bloodiest battles).

Tigerland - More a preparing for war film, its set in a training camp for recruits heading to Vietnam, and stars Colin Farell when he was good lol.

3: the depiction of certain characters, the biggest being the prince of orange and the dutch forces at waterloo is utter bollocks, most dutch officers gained experience in the french army, as did allot of older dutch troops, the prince of orange was inexperienced, but not a hated moron (unlike historically the large majority of british officers at waterloo)

sharpe IS fiction set in an historical period, its a good fiction, but to confuse it as historically correct is just plain stupid
No, you mong, you said that "history is fiction" not Historical Fiction, completely different, and damn insulting.

It's like someone writing a story about the SF marines who paddled across the sounds in the Falklands, but having their name changed, and then some bell end coming up and saying "that's all fiction, because one guy had his name changed".

1. No shit sherlock. I fucking stated that.
2. He was able to swap between them so quickly - I can't think of any at the moment as to when that happened - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharpe_..._short_stories
3. License in writing a books - freely admitted.

Must troll much harder, considering the author explicitly states that otherwise in the books.

And shit yeh, I forgot about Tigerland, DAC, good fillum.

As for Black Hawk Down, for the most part, aside from the Hollywoodisms that are inherent in Film versions, they are as sod it is to swearing - right down to Macknight pulling out his map in the middle of contact and placing it on his Cutvee - this is frequently mentioned in books on the occasion, including a former SEAL Team 6 Sniper turned Chiropractor Howie Wasdin, who was present. The difference being that MacKnight was not "bravely facing fire", he was considered a fucking idiot in not knowing where he was going, only to then debus and open up a map.

The most notably "error" is that there was no big fuck off "look at me" taped on the HUMINT vehicle; instead it was more sci fi - a tracker hidden in a cane intended to be given to Aidid or Osman, but following that failed operation, was given to the Source to follow while he was covered by a C2 bird from the air.
