Default 1500 point plan

I'm starting a new Tau army and will be working my way up to 1500 points so I need to know where I'm heading with it all. I don't have anything yet so nothing is set in stone. Here is my plan:

HQ

Shas'el 122
TA
PR
MP
MT
2 Shield drones

Elites

Fire Knives 251
3 Models
PR,MP,TA,MT
Bonded

Deathrains 146
3 Models
TL-MP, Flamers
Bonded

Troops

Fire Warriors 155
6 Models
Devilfish with Disruption Pod and Multi-tracker

Fire Warriors 155
6 Models
Devilfish with Disruption Pod and Multitracker

Fast Attack

Pathfinders 179
7 Models
Devilfish with Disruption Pod and Multitracker

Heavy Support

Broadside Team 180
2 Models
2 Shield Drones
Bonded

Railhead 155
Disruption Pod
Multitracker

Railhead 155
Disruption Pod
Multitracker

Total: 1498

This list is full of the units I like which is why I chose them but I do want this list to do ok in a semi-competative situation. The idea of this list is to keep moving, hence all the multitrackers. I'll move a tank 12" and then jump shoot jump a crisis team behind it for cover saves. The Devilfish will come on from reserve to claim/contest objectives.

There are 2 main concerns I have though. The commander doesn't seem to bring a whole lot more to the party, is there a better way I could equip him? I was thinking of a DSing Sunforge seeing as I have the Pathfinders' Devilfish. The second is the Fireknife team. I know they are good but they cost more than the average Terminator Squad! Should I keep them or drop them for more Deathrains and spend the points elsewhere? The thing is I don't know where else to get AP2 weapons...

Like I said none of this is set in stone because I have no models yet so tear it apart all you want.

I personally find that the pathfinders should stay stationary to use their markerlights so the second devilfish for the fire warriors isn't necessary. And it seems that you are seriously lacking in anti-infantry units, So I might suggest trying to either get more fire warrior squads or to just increase the unit sizes.

that's illeagal- you only get three hard-points. your team leader can have this (cuz the MT can be HW) but your 'uis can't.

with the pts. you save, ugrade your 'rains to 'rain+ (TL-MP, TA)

*try* to squeeze in a 6-man FW squad (give the pathfinder's fish to them)

should be your basic outline

Have you ever felt so at one with the world, with the universe, with everything that is, that you were overcome with love?

That is reality. That is the truth. What we make of it is up to us.

The broadsides and pathfinders aren't terribly mobile. Maybe a 3rd railhead and a 3 man stealth suit unit with marker drones and markerlight for unit leader since they can move a fire the markers.
Also, 2 small troops at 1500pts seems a bit fragile for that sized army. I agree with previous 2 posts about adding more FW.

Ooops my my bad. I think I would leave out the TA then in order to get more shots out.

Are they ever mobile? I will take the chance of not getting a shot off on turn 1 during Dow (which might not happen anyway due to night fighting) to save the points and add more speed when needed.

I would rather take pathfinders over a stealth team because I can get more markerlights in and helps with the devilfish spam. Besides I prefer the pathfinder fluff :D

I do see what you mean about a lack of anti-infantry though. By taking out one of the Devilfish and dropping the TAs I have about 120ish points to spend. What would you suggest? I do fight alot of Marines and Eldar so another Shas'el with CIB, MT, TA and Burst cannon? He would be a bit lonely though.
