Because it's much more than a calculator, Using an army building tool just makes it infinitely easier to make quick changes to a force, juggle things around and ensure that you stay within the rules without any effort. Then it formats it and prints it all out for you, with page references for the all the rules in your army.

Hmm...like I say, I guess I'm just oldschool, sounds like it takes allot of the work out of list writing, which to me is allot of the fun of list writing, all those things like making changes, making sure your within limits aren't that hard to do by hand and its allot more personal and individual.

Do not want.

This is freaking awesome, just bought the pro version. It'll make setting up lists for pickup games much easier/quicker without having to come with anything from 1500-2500 lists built already.

Bad. Ass.

Eh? Your list is more personal and individual if you write it out by hand? Come on you know that's bollocks right? I mean each to their own and all that but I fail to see how using a different tool to make a list makes it more individual. Rapid prototyping lets you try out wacky things to see how they look. Say I want to make a Bretonnian Royal Air Force prototyping that in a tool like Battlescribe will take 5-10 minutes, with pencil/paper and calculator you're going to be juggling points and scrawling for a lot longer than that.

If anyone is still looking for the repository I suggest just doing an indiscriminate shot at somewhere on the internet and you'll find them.

I'm surprised GW haven't closed these sorts of things down for copyright infringement, or are they licensed? Or is there some sort of exemption?

If you think its bollocks that's fine, I don't care, I care what I think about my opinions, and my opinion is I prefer writing lists by hand because that's how I like it, having a codex, rulebook, my notebook FILLED with lists and a pen feels "proper", I don't wanna have an app do the work for me, heck I rarely use a calculator Cus I like to add up myself.

GW do try to close them down, I hear that Army Builder have some sort of agreement but even so the Codex files are only available from the third party site really. You can placate GW somewhat by only putting the points costs and construction rules and just referencing all the other rules in the codex. So you must own the codex to play the army.
